Bangladesh: Maa Durga murti vandalised in Gopalganj

Ahead of the biggest dharmic festival of the Hindu minority community, Bangladesh has been witnessing continuous attacks on Hindu temples and idol vandalism. After the vandalism of the Durga idol in Faridpur and the destruction of the Vishwakarma idol in Habiganj; report of vandalism of the Durga idol has been coming from Gopalganj district of Bangladesh.

As per reports, local Hindu minorities were making arrangements for the upcoming Durga Puja in the temple at Charpara village under Gopinathpur union of Gopalganj district. This morning, they found that the Durga idol was vandalised. Also, the idols(Murtis) of Maa Laxmi and Maa Saraswati are damaged.

This caused anger among the local Hindus. They gathered in large numbers in front of the temple and demanded the identification and arrest of the culprits. Locals said that they have no idea who did this, as the incident happened the previous night. They suspect the role of radical Islamic elements behind this.

After receiving information from the locals, the Police visited the temple and promised arrest and proper legal action against the accused. Notably, this is not the first incident. A few days ago, unidentified miscreants had broken the idol of Maa Durga in Faridpur. Although the Police have been investigating, till now, no one has been arrested.
