Bangladesh: Now men have to pay heavy taxes for second, third and fourth marriage; the law comes into effect in Dhaka

Dhaka South City Municipal Corporation has brought a strange law regarding marriages. As per the Corporation’s decision, men have to pay heavy taxes for their second, third and fourth marriages. And the taxes are applicable to the all religions.

As per the reports, men have to pay a very minimum tax for their first marriage. But they have to pay higher taxes for their second or third or fourth marriages.

Men have to pay only 100 BDT(Bangladesh currency) during their first marriage registration in the Kazi office. But, if a man wants to marry second time, in that case, the man must get permission from his first wife. And during marriage, the person has to pay 5,000 BDT(Five Thousand Bangladeshi Taka).

But, if a man has two wives at home and wants to marry third time, in that case the man have to obtain permissions from both wives. Then, the man can marry for third time after paying a tax of 20,000 BDT(Twenty Thousand Bangladeshi Taka).

For the fourth wife, a man has to pay a higher tax than in previous marriages. In this case, the man has to get permissions from all three wives, and then he can marry after paying a heavy tax of 50,000 BDT(Fifty Thousand Bangladeshi Taka).

An official of the Municipal Corporation said, “To bring transparency in the marriage registration process, we have enacted the law. Before enacting the law, we have consulted with the Law Ministry.”
