Recently, Islamist elements have been trying to create terror and chaos in the holy pilgrimage site Chandranath temple. The Chandranath temple is a Shakti peeth situated in the hill area of Sitakund of the Chattagram district of Bangladesh. The site is considered holy to the Hindu minorities of Bangladesh, and every year, lakhs of Hindus visit the sacred temple.

But, in recent years, Islamists from different districts have visited the forests and hill areas adjacent to the temple, attracted by the scenic beauty of the holy site. They are treating the sacred site as a picnic spot, cooking meat and beef, organising bonfires and parties, and offering Namaz. The Islamists also entered the holy site by giving slogans like ‘Nara-e-takbir, Allahu-akbar’.

Such incidents have created terror among ordinary Hindu pilgrims, who used to visit the sacred place by walking peacefully for generations. Recently, to prevent such incidents and to keep the sanctity of the holy site, several Hindu organisations have come upfront. They put thousands of posters and banners on the roads to the Chandranath Temple. The banners were put up with requests and warnings in the name of a Hindu organisation named ‘Jago Hindu Parishad’. Also, several banners were put up with the names of several Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

However, Islamists reportedly targeted those posters and banners. Several posters and banners were seen torn down. The images are already viral on different social media platforms. Notably, the general election is scheduled to happen on the 7th of January this year. Before the elections, attacks on Hindu minorities and Hindu temples have been happening regularly. Not a single demand of the Hindu community is fulfilled, and the security of the Hindu community is not secured. Amid this situation, the most holy site of the Hindu minority community of Bangladesh is facing attacks from the Islamists.
