At least 50 houses of Rohingya refugees turned into ashes as a sudden fire broke out in the refugee camp of Coxbazaar in Bangladesh.
As per the reports, on the night of 31st of December, 2023, around 2.30 AM, a massive fire broke out in the Rohingya refugee camp at Ukhiya locality in Coxbazaar. Rohingya refugees of the camp fled their homes to save themselves.
After receiving information, three engines from the Ukhiya Fire Brigade reached the camp. After an effort of two hours, the fire brigade controlled the situation.
A serviceman of the fire brigade said, “Controlling the fire was very tough. As the area is near the sea, the fire spread fast with the help of wind.” But the reason for this incident is not known yet, he said.
Notably, this incident is not new. Last year, in March 2023, unknown miscreants set ablaze a Rohingya refugee camp in Coxbazaar. At least 15,000 Rohingya refugees became homeless at that time.
