Bangladesh: Awami League leader and his aides gangraped Hindu woman

At least Three persons including the brother of the local Union Parishad (UP) chairman were accused of gang-raping a woman belonging to the minority Hindu community and extorting money by threatening to spread the video on social media.

The incident took place at the Paikpara village of Hajipur Union in Kulaura upazila under Moulvibazar District on the night of June 29.

The matter came to light when the victim filed a case at the Kulaura police station on Monday.

According to the police and the case report, the woman visited a relative’s home at Paikpara village of Hajipur union in Kulaura upazila on the holy day of Eid-ul-Azhar on June 29.

The relative left the woman alone at home and went to business in the market in the evening.

At night, Union Awami League leader Chalik Box, the younger brother of Hajipur UP chairman Wadud Box, and his associate Hasanul Bari Sani broke the door of the house and entered the room.

Later, two of them raped the woman by scaring her.
In this work, They were assisted by their other associate Member of Sharifpur UP Md. Saifur Rahman.
During the gang-rape, they recorded videos of the woman naked on their mobile phone and threatened to spread these videos and pictures on social media.
The rapists demanded TK two lakh.

Later, when the woman’s relative returned home from his business and all three left the scene with Tk 50,000 in cash.

However, the accused kept pressing for money again.

Later, the rape victim filed a case with the Kulaura police station against three culprits.

On July – 4 , The Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abduch Chalek
admitted and said that a case has been filed against three people.

The victim has been sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for health examination.

Inspector (Investigation) Ratan Chandra Debnath, the investigating officer of the case, said, “The accused in this case are absconding. Police have continued raids to arrest them in several teams.
