CIC Uday Mahurkar launches #SaveCultureSaveNation movement against sexual perversion on OTT, social media & other platforms

CIC Uday Mahurkar has launched a movement to fight sleazy content across various platforms. The #SaveCultureSaveNation movement has received support from spiritual leaders such as Baba Ramdev and Gayatri Parivar’s Dr Chinmay among others. The campaign was launched in Bhopal.

CIC (Chief Information Commissioner) Uday believes pornographic content is being promoted through various platforms in the name of creativity. He also says such content promotes rape. Moving Pixel created an awareness video for the campaign that has gone viral on several platforms. The initiative comes at a time when the horrific Nirbhay rape case completes ten years and Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Pathan movie’s Besharam Rang song elicited angry reactions from the public.

In his media interview, CIC Uday stated that he had taken up the campaign at a personal level 18 years ago. He further said that content creators are dishing out sexual perversion in the name of creativity and that such content has only increased over the years. He highlighted that he launched the movement 18 years ago after being concerned about sleazy content in the film Jism. CIC Uday added that things have only worsened.

He rued that rape cases have not just increased after the Nirbhaya case but also the forms of rape today are far more horrendous. He blamed sexual perversion on OTT and social media (SM) platforms and the promotion of pornography for the rise in rape cases. While pointing out that the latest law on digital content (which is yet to be implemented) is strong, he said sexually provoking content is available in the form of short films or videos on OTT and SM. The content in these videos or films is both sleazy and promotes immorality.

CIC Uday highlighted that such content is likely to leave a negative impression on young minds. He said he undertook the movement since such content is destroying society. The aim of the campaign is to save society from the menace of rape and stop the attack taking place on our civilization through misuse of OTT and SM platforms that are unregulated.

“India cannot become a great nation without curbing this menace. Countries like Dubai, Singapore, and China have been able to curb this through stringent actions and the use of technology”, CIC Uday said.

When asked a question in connection with the sleazy content in the song Besharam Rang and with whom the onus lies, CIC Uday said that everyone who is part of content creation has the responsibility including the platforms that host the content. “You are selling sexual perversion in the name of content and creativity that is the main issue in this whole thing and it is directly linked to rapes. There are studies available”, he says.

CIC Uday opined that most films on OTT cannot be watched by elders along with their children even for ten minutes because they are full of abuse and sleazy content. He reiterated the need to curb such content while adding that nations have successfully done so to a large extent if not fully.

He said the government has brought in a strong law but he wants to unite the nation and enlist the support of the entire society. CIC Uday said he would approach spiritual leaders and ask them to lend their support to the campaign. He also believes his campaign would create pressure on content creators and ensure cleaner and healthier content would be created as a result.
