CM Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has revamped the history syllabus of classes 11 and 12. The changes will apply to both CBSE and UP state boards. The Yogi government decided to drop certain topics and include others.
As per the decision, students of class 12 will not be taught Mughal history from the 2023-2024 academic year. As far as Civics is concerned the Yogi government has removed the lessons on the Cold war and American supremacy/power. Chapters on the beginning of mass movements and the era of single-party politics have been dropped from Politics of Independent Bharat textbook.
Revamping the class 11 syllabus, the government has dropped the birth of Islam, the industrial revolution, the clash of cultures, and the origins of time chapters. Apart from this, the lessons of Democracy and Diversity, People’s Struggle and Movement, and Challenges of Democracy were removed from the book of Class 10’s Democratic Politics.
The decision to revamp the syllabus comes as the Education Ministry announced the decision to release the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), a set of curricular guidelines that form an important part of National Education Policy (NEP), for all levels in the coming months. The Education Ministry also announced that updated textbooks would be introduced for the academic year 2024-2025.
