Yogi government has started tightening the noose on madrasas, which are running without registration in Uttar Pradesh (UP). More than a dozen madrasas in Muzaffarnagar have been issued notices and asked to show the documents. Jamaat-ulema-e-Hind attempted to politicize the issue.
The notice issued by the Basic Education Officer said that if madrasas are found to be running without registration and proper documents, a fine of Rs 10,000 per day will be imposed. According to officials, there are about 25,000 madrasas in UP. Of these, more than 16,000 are recognized, and more than 8,000 are unrecognized.
District Basic Education Officer Shubham Shukla said that the district minority welfare department had informed his office that more than 100 madrasas running in the district are not registered and are working against the norms.
He further informed that in this matter, notices have been issued to more than a dozen madrasas. They have been asked to show the relevant documents within three days from the day the notice is received, failing which action will be taken as per the rules.
Around 4000 madrasas that receive foreign funds are under the radar of the Yogi government. The Yogi government set up a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate these madrasas, most of which are located along the Nepal border. These madrasas are said to be receiving funds from abroad. A government official said that the SIT is investigating whether the foreign funds received by the madrasas are being used for illegal activities such as terrorism and illegal religious conversions.
Madrasas must be eliminated. This religion-based education system has been the springboard of religious bigotry, hate crime and distancing Muslim community from people of other religions. They never teach pupils to learn anything from non-Muslim scholars. They inculcate misguided attitudes. This medieaval education system must be replaced by science-based modern education. No compromise!
