Seasonal Hindu Kejriwal’s Ramayan gaffe; for all his claims of being a Hindu, he doesn’t even get the basics right

Come elections, Hindudveshi politicians like Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav, and others suddenly become devout Hindus. Some undertake Mandir tours like the Nehru scions while others like the AAP chief turn into ‘experts’ of Hindu Granthas. The only problem with the likes of Arvind Kejriwal turning into Hindu Grantha experts is that they tend to add their interpretations and even

‘Hanuman Bhakt’ Kejriwal’s “Ramayan” knowledge

VC: The Pamphlet

AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal who claimed to be Prabhu Sri Ram and Bhagwan Hanuman Bhakt, doesn’t even know the basics of Ramayan. “Prabhu Sri Ram had to go live in the forests for 14 years. One day Sri Ram went into the forest to arrange for food. He left Mata Sita in the hut and asked Sri Laxman to guard and protect her”, he is heard saying.

“In the meanwhile, Ravan came disguised as a golden deer. Mata Sita asked Laxman Ji to get the golden deer for her. Laxman ji reminded her that Prabhu Ram had asked him to protect her but Mata Sita commanded him to catch the deer for her. Laxman Ji had no option but to obey her and as soon as he left Ravan came in his true form and abducted Sita Mata,” Kejriwal said.

Somebody ought to remind this seasonal Hindu that it was Ravan’s uncle Marich who appeared as a golden deer to lure Prabhu Ram away from their hut so that Ravan would get the opportunity to abduct Mata Sita. When Mata Sita insisted that she wanted the golden deer, it was Prabhu Sri Ram who left her under Laxman’s protection to fulfill her wish. Later, Mata Sita sent Laxman Ji away on hearing Prabhu Sri Ram’s “plea for help” and Laxman obeyed her. Ravan took advantage of the absence of the brothers and abducted Sita Devi.

Every Dharmic Hindu knows the entire sequence of events. In fact, even a child can narrate this event without difficulty and errors. Only an electoral Hindu like Rahul Gandhi or Arvind Kejriwal would make mistakes in the basics.

How ‘secular’ Kejriwal turns ‘Hindu’ during election times

Kejriwal has repeatedly proved that he is a Chunavi Hindu (seasonal/electoral Hindu). It is hard to forget how he insulted the holy Hindu symbol Swastika. In his 2019 tweet titled “Someone sent this”, he showed a figure with the AAP symbol broom running to beat the Swastika.

On 16 April 2024, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched the ‘AAP ka Ram Rajya’ website, claiming that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had worked to establish Bhagwan Ram’s ideals in the national capital. However, it is worth noting that AAP has consistently exhibited hostility towards Hindus, Hindu Dharma, and even Bhagwan Ram on multiple occasions.

When Arvind Kejriwal was jailed in 2023 for his involvement in the Delhi Liquor Scam, his party suddenly invoked Bhagwan Ram’s name for political gain. This hypocrisy is further evident in the actions of AAP leaders. In 2022, AAP leader Rajendra Pal Gautam, who was then Delhi’s Minister of Social Welfare, openly insulted Hindu deities, declaring that he neither worshipped nor considered them as Gods. In 2022, he attended an event at Ambedkar Bhawan in Karol Bagh, where people took Buddhist initiation and pledged not to worship Hindu deities. This sparked outrage, with the BJP demanding an apology from AAP.

In 2020, Kejriwal claimed to be a devotee of Bhagwan Hanuman, arguing that since Hanuman Ji is a devotee of Bhagwan Ram, he too, by extension, is a Ram Bhakt. He even announced that once the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was built, his government would take elderly Delhi residents for darshan. However, this so-called ‘Ram Bhakt’ had earlier opposed the construction of the Ram Mandir. In 2014, Kejriwal mocked Hindus for wanting to build a temple at Bhagwan Ram’s birthplace, stating that his grandmother would never have approved of it.

When the Ayodhya Ram Mandir was still a distant dream, Kejriwal repeatedly dismissed the idea, arguing that the government should focus on building schools, colleges, and hospitals instead. His party members, too, have consistently opposed the Mandir’s construction. In June 2021, AAP leader Sanjay Singh attempted to stir controversy by spreading misinformation, alleging financial misappropriation by the BJP and the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust.

Kejriwal’s actions have also disrespected Bhagwan Hanuman, whom he claims to revere. In January 2020, after leftist students at JNU attacked ABVP students over a semester form dispute, Kejriwal shared a cartoon depicting Bhagwan Hanuman ‘setting fire’ to JNU as a distraction. This blatant insult to Hindu sentiments further exposed AAP’s duplicity.

From ridiculing the idea of a Ram Mandir to exploiting Bhagwan Ram’s name for political mileage, AAP’s actions reveal a clear pattern of deception and opportunism. Apart from this opportunist attitude, this is not the first time Kejriwal has displayed his ignorance of Hindu Granthas. Ahead of the 2020 Delhi elections, Arvind Kejriwal, who frequently tries to present himself as a devout Hindu, had an embarrassing moment when he misquoted the Bhagavad Gita. In an attempt to target the BJP, he claimed that the Grantha states a “true Hindu” is brave and never flees the battlefield. However, his ignorance was evident, as the Bhagavad Gita, in its 700 Sanskrit verses, does not mention the word “Hindu” even once.

Given the history of the AAP and Kejriwal, it can be safely said that for all their claims of being ‘devout Hindus’ both the AAP Chief and his party members have repeatedly insulted Hindus and Hindu Dharma. However, with Delhi elections around the corner, and given their dismal governance which now stands exposed, Kejriwal is trying to play the Hindu card. But like the blue jackal that was caught when its colour washed off, his lack of knowledge has given away Kejriwal and exposed him as a Chunavi Hindu.
