“Parliament’s Winter Session: Amit Shah to move bills on J&K reservation act, J&K reorganisation act”, Organiser, December 5, 2023:

“The Bill to amend the Jammu & Kashmir Reservation Act 2004 and the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 is likely to be moved by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on December 5.

The Jammu & Kashmir Reservation Act provides for reservation in appointment in State Government posts, and admission to professional institutions, for certain reserved categories. The Bill provides for reservation in professional institutions for economically weaker sections.

The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 provides for the reorganisation of the State of Jammu & Kashmir into the union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The Bill increases the total number of seats in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly from 83 to 90. It also reserves seven seats for Scheduled Castes and nine seats for Scheduled Tribes…..”
