The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka has come under sharp criticism after approving a massive ₹600 crore special development package exclusively targeting colonies inhabited by minorities across the state. The decision, cleared by the state cabinet on Thursday, is being viewed by critics as yet another instance of open minority appeasement using taxpayer money.
As per OpIndia reports, the package, sanctioned under the Minorities Welfare, Hajj, and Waqf Department, is aimed at developing “most backward” minority-dominated colonies and slum areas spread across eleven city corporations in Karnataka. The action plan will cover the financial years 2026–27 and 2027–28 and has already received clearance from the Finance Department.
According to the cabinet decision, the funds will be utilized for infrastructure and development works in colonies identified specifically on the basis of minority population concentration. The move has triggered political outrage, with opponents questioning why public resources are being allocated through religion-centric welfare schemes instead of need-based development applicable to all economically weaker communities, irrespective of faith.
The controversy intensified after questions were raised over why the government approved the package for two financial years simultaneously. Responding to the criticism, Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil defended the decision, claiming the dual-year approval was intended to avoid delays in projects that may continue beyond a single financial cycle.
Attempting to dismiss allegations of political motives, Patil stated that the Minority Welfare Department had already prepared proposals amounting to ₹600 crore and the cabinet merely approved them. He further argued that the government was not waiting to use the scheme as an electoral tool after the Davangere South elections.
However, the timing and exclusivity of the scheme expose the Congress government’s continued reliance on religion-based welfare politics. They contend that while many economically struggling Hindu, SC/ST, OBC, and rural communities continue to face infrastructure deficiencies, the state government is prioritizing selective vote-bank-oriented spending under the guise of minority welfare.
The decision is expected to intensify the political debate in Karnataka over appeasement politics, especially at a time when questions are increasingly being raised about whether welfare schemes funded by public money should be framed on religious identity rather than socio-economic need.
Karnataka is already struggling due to excessive freebies, with many government projects reportedly stalled, road laying and infrastructure works delayed, and taxpayers bearing the burden. Despite this financial strain, public money continues to flow disproportionately toward Islamic minority-focused schemes and Islamic institutions. Many people feel the Congress government under Siddaramaiah is neglecting the concerns of the broader population, especially Hindus and ordinary taxpayers of Karnataka. If people do not wake up to these policies and question the direction of governance, Hindus may face increasing political and social marginalization in the future.

The Rs. 600 crore package, sanctioned under the Minorities Welfare, Hajj, and Waqf Department, for Muslims under the garb of helping “disadvantaged minorities” is one more hard slap on the face of beleaguered, cowering Hindus and a rape of similarly disadvantaged Hindus for which being in a minority is a prerequisite, but in actual power dynamics being a Muslim is a prerequisite! Our Constitution has oppression and injustice built in. And Hindus sure are cringing in pain, but still pacific. Amongst common masses, any hero who try to express resentment would be immediately dog-whistled as “anti-muslim” not just by Mohammadans but especially by majority “secular” dhimmi Hindus, and his/her life, even their family’s lives, would be at constant risk of attack and social isolation. Such is the reality. That is why this Siddaramaiah and his ruling cronies act so brazen here and also frequently!
Hindus have such a defeatist, prey mentality that they are guilt-shamed of hypothetical crimes just because they are greater in number in Bharat as a whole! Punishing them for such has been accepted by masses and in the Bhartiya Constitution! So even, if some state has Hindus in minority, they are also deemed guilty and not considered a “minority”! “Minorities” in practice mostly is an euphemism for Muslims – in any case do not mean Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs in any govrrnmental or political scheme, except for tokenism. So why Hindus are guilty of oppressing and subjugating this alleged “minority” is never questioned. In fact questioning that itself involves heavy ridicule, and name calling and a crime by Mohammadans and their dhimmi sidekicks within Bharat and internationally!
It is a very dippressing situation and changing the nature of Hindus is surely a herculean task, but we have to try persistently. They are constantly looking at “government” for their protection. I implore Hindus to not think of themselves individually, but please join Hindu organizations and protest such blatant abuses through these organizations.
