Haryana CM Saini slams serial liar Kejriwal for “Haryana poisoned Yamuna” claim; says will take legal action

AAP Chief and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is known to spread lies to suit his propaganda. However, this time he crossed all limits of decency by claiming that the BJP-led Haryana government ‘poisoned’ the Yamuna River.

AAP Chief Kejriwal says Haryana government ‘poisoned’ Yamuna

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP-led Haryana government of deliberately contaminating the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi, alleging that the intent was to cause harm and shift the blame onto AAP.

“The BJP government in Haryana has poisoned the Yamuna water. Had this water entered Delhi’s supply and mixed with drinking water, it could have led to mass casualties—a genocide,” claimed the former Delhi chief minister.

Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal credited the vigilance of the Delhi Jal Board for preventing the alleged contaminated water from mixing with Delhi’s drinking supply. Furthermore, he accused the BJP of playing ‘cheap politics’ to win Delhi elections by defeating AAP. Claims of intent to commit mass genocide are serious charges and the AAP convenor has shown that he can plumb unfathomable depths when it comes to gaining sympathy and by extension votes.

AAP convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks on the supply of “poisonous water” from Haryana have sparked a major controversy, with the entire Haryana BJP unit launching protests against him in Chandigarh and New Delhi on Tuesday (January 28).

Haryana CM Nayab Saini was the first to react, accusing Kejriwal of insulting his birthplace and the people of Haryana with such statements. “People of Haryana worship the Yamuna,” Saini asserted, dismissing Kejriwal’s claims as frustration. Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Saini called Kejriwal a liar and drew a sharp analogy, saying, “If Lord Krishna rid the Yamuna of Kalia Naag’s poison, the people of Delhi will remove this poison in the upcoming assembly elections.”

Meanwhile, in Chandigarh, BJP ministers and MLAs staged a protest march in Panchkula, demanding a ban on Kejriwal and his campaign in New Delhi. Haryana revenue and disaster management minister Vipul Goel, along with over eight MLAs and ministers, led the demonstration, urging the Election Commission of India (ECI) to bar Kejriwal and the Delhi CM from campaigning due to their alleged failure in governance over the past decade.

Goel also questioned Kejriwal’s claims, asking, “How did he stop water? What wall did he raise? How long did it take? And how is he providing water to Delhi residents—does he supply bottled water to all?” Earlier Haryana CM Saini had also asked the former Delhi CM to substantiate his claims by raising these questions.

Simultaneously, BJP MPs intensified their attack in New Delhi, with Bhiwani-Mahendergarh MP Dharambir Singh leading a group of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members. Rajya Sabha MP and former Haryana minister Kiran Choudhary accused Kejriwal of spreading misleading statements, citing the water flow mechanisms in Sonipat that regulate pollutant levels under joint government oversight.

The day-long protests culminated in a high-level BJP delegation, including CM Saini, submitting a formal complaint to the ECI, demanding action against Kejriwal. Saini drank water from the Yamuna to refute Kejriwal’s claims and ‘prove’ the water was safe for consumption.

Even PM Modi slammed the former Delhi Chief Minister and showed a rare anger. “We belong to a culture that feeds and gives water to birds and animals. However, the AAPda (danger) party is accusing Haryanvis of poisoning drinking water. This is not just an insult to Haryana but also to Bharatiyas and Bharatiya culture. Giving water to the thirsty is considered a sacred duty and Dharma in our culture. We have such people in Haryana who constructed wells and step-wells for the village instead of building homes for themselves. You dare to make such false accusations just out of fear of losing elections,” the PM said while slamming the AAP chief.

More trouble for AAP Chief – DJB refutes his claim, Election Commission issues notice

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) refuted the AAP Convenor’s claims in their press release. DJB has said in no uncertain terms that the claims are factually incorrect and misleading. The Press Release also asserted that DJB conducts regular quality checks and regulates supplies based on numerous parameters. It also highlighted the reasons for the increase in ammonia concentrations during winters and the steps taken by DJB to treat the water to make it fit for supply.

“The matter is being brought to your attention, given the fact that such false statements lead to fear-mongering amongst city residents and also adversely impact relations with the upper riparian state of Haryana. Given that this matter is likely to affect inter-state relations, these facts may be brought to the attention of the Honourable Lieutenant Governor in terms of the Transaction of Business Rules,” says the Press Release.

Kejriwal’s troubles didn’t end there as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has also stepped into the picture. Acting on a complaint by the BJP and Congress, ECI has issued a notice to Kejriwal highlighting the sections of Bharatiya Nyay Samhita under which he is liable for punishment. The ECI notice invokes Section 196 (promoting enmity), Section 197 (assertions prejudicial to national integration) and Section 123(4) of the Representation of People Act, 1951.

If found guilty, Kejriwal is likely to face a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both. The Commission has asked the former Delhi CM to substantiate his claims with valid proofs. Additionally, a court at Sonipat in Haryana has ordered former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to appear before it on February 17 after a plea was filed against the AAP convenor who has accused the BJP of “poisoning” the Yamuna river.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Goyal was hearing a complaint filed by the State of Haryana through the State Disaster Management Authority against Arvind Kejriwal under Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The complaint alleged that Kejriwal spread misinformation and caused panic among the residents of Delhi and Haryana with his “Yamuna poisoned” remark.

Kejriwal’s history of fake promises, lying on oath and other propaganda

Listed below are instances of Arvind Kejriwal’s fake promises and history of lying:

1) He had promised to install 15 lakh CCTV cameras in Delhi before 2015 elections. However, in 2020 denied making any such promise. The fact of the matter is that he even reiterated the promise on several occasions.

2) In 2020, OpIndia ran an analysis of the poll promises made and delivered by Arvind Kejriwal. “Of the 70 promises made, Kejriwal has delivered fully only on 11 promises, while the bulk, 57, are either not fulfilled or at best only partially fulfilled at the end of the 5-year term,” notes OpIndia.

3) In an attempt to make the AAP government in Punjab look good, the AAP convenor spun the lie of Punjab Power Corporation turning into a profitable venture under the AAP government and making losses earlier.

4) Targeting Adani and PM Modi has become a favourite with the entire opposition and Kejriwal is no exception.

5) The biggest lie, which takes the cake, is that he wouldn’t move into the official residence. He then went on to build a Sheesh Mahal at public expense.

AAP is seeking a third term but since they have no achievement to show, Kejriwal is resorting to spreading lies and misinformation that has the potential to create panic among citizens. It is up to the citizens of Delhi to reject his lies or continue voting for a serial liar who has nothing constructive to offer.
