Assam: FIR filed against the chief organiser of ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Jorhat

An FIR has been registered against the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ and its chief organiser KB Byju for allegedly deviating from its permitted route inside Jorhat town in Assam. The Police said that due to the ignorance of the organisers, chaos and stampede happened in the town.

According to the sources, a suo motu FIR has been registered in the Jorhat Sadar Police Station against the Yatra and its chief organiser. 

It is also mentioned in the FIR that the Yatra didn’t follow the district administration’s norms and it violated road safety norms. Instead of following the permitted route, the march took a different turn in the town and this led to a stampede-like situation in the area. 

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had warned that any breach of law during the Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ will be dealt with strong legal actions by the authorities. 

Sarma also said in a gathering that he had cautioned the Congress not to take the ‘Yatra’ via Guwahati city, as it might create commotion. He also warned that if the ‘Yatra’ goes through the city, the state government will not make any security arrangements. He also requested the Congress party to take an alter
