Assam: Citing ‘Women are not secure in Congress’, several Congress leaders join BJP

Amid Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, several senior Congress leaders of the Assam unit joined the BJP today.

In the presence of senior BJP leaders and ministers, well-known faces of Assam Congress, Ankita Dutta and Bismita Gogoi, joined the BJP.

After joining the BJP, Gogoi, a former minister in the Assam Government, alleged, “There is no honour of women in Congress. In Rajiv Bhawan, the Congress headquarters of Assam, senior leaders discuss the blouse and sarees of the party’s women workers. They make derogatory comments towards women party workers and leaders.”

Also, another leader, Ankita Dutta, made serious allegations against the Congress. Former President of the party’s Youth wing of Assam, Ankita Dutta, earlier alleged that a senior Congress leader had sexually exploited her. She also filed a complaint against the accused leader. But the Congress Party didn’t take any action. She also quit the Congress and joined the BJP.

Besides, the former President of AASU(All Assam Students’ Union), Dipanka Nath, joined the BJP today. Also, hundreds of Congress party workers joined the BJP.

In a program organised today in Guwahati, the mega-joining happened. Senior leaders of BJP’s state unit, including State unit chief Bhavesh Kalita along with the ministers, welcomed them to BJP.

Kalita said, “We are happy that these leaders from the Congress and the AASU have decided to join us. Today’s event is part of an ongoing process of people from other parties joining the BJP. We expect more people to join us ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.”
