It has been more than one week since the brutal lynching of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteer Jimnesh by CPM goons at Panunda in the Kuthuparamba area in the Kannur District of Kerala. He was just 32. Police are yet to take any action against his killers.
RSS volunteers had gathered at the house of T Akshay in Pinarayi to participate in the Guru Dakshina (Offerings to the Guru) event which all shakhas conduct around the festival of Guru Purnima. CPM goons attacked the volunteers and destroyed flags and other decorations prepared for the festival. Akshay, A Adarsh, PV Jishnu, and KP Adarsh were all hurt and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thalassery.
Jimnesh was critically injured in the attack and died the next day during treatment on July 26. He collapsed after being taken to the hospital for treatment, say sources. It is said that he died due to internal bleeding.
Police claim that this death was caused by a ‘heart attack’, not the beating. According to the police, Jimnesh visited the hospital alongside the RSS employees who had been hurt in the altercation. They claim he had a heart attack and passed out in the hospital waiting room.
Doctors reportedly told the police that Jimnesh’s body had marks that matched those found during CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a medical procedure which can cause life-threatening injuries). Police said the victim’s body had no injuries and nothing about his death was strange!
BJP and RSS members accused CPM goons of Jimnesh’s murder. N Haridas, the district president of the BJP, visited the injured RSS activists. He alleged that the CPM purposely attempted to cause problems in Kannur. The BJP leader demanded that the police thoroughly investigate Jimnesh’s murder.
A postmortem was conducted at Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital, Thalassery, and the body was then handed over to the relatives. Hundreds of RSS activists from all over the state reached Pinarayi to pay their last respects. After a public viewing at the Sanghasthan, volunteers took the body to the crematorium. Chanting mourners accompanied the funeral.
BJP state president K. Surendran said that CPM aims to unleash political violence to save its distorted face, and violence and murder are proof of that. He visited Jignesh’s house and met the injured workers.
Kerala is fast becoming a lawless land where green communists are taking out political rivals. Local police have become spectators while communist and Islamist goons indulge in crimes. The state is moving the West Bengal way, and Hindus want the central government to intervene.
