Violence by Muslim mob during Ameer-e-Tabligh Jamaat funeral procession: Jharkhand

A fresh case of stone-pelting has been reported from Harmu Road in Ranchi by TV9 Bharatvarsh. At 10:50 PM on April 23, a mob of Ameer-e-Tabligh Jamaat was taking out a funeral procession of Haji Ghulam Sarwar, offering Namaaz at Itka grounds. The large crowd started blocking the Harmu Main Road. Further, they turned aggressive when it was alleged that stones were pelted at them from atop the Pollution Control Centre building at Gadikhana Chowk.

Soon, the mob went into a frenzy brandishing swords, damaging and torching vehicles. As per reports, the mob also damaged shops in the area. Thousands participated in the procession. The police hadn’t expected participation in such huge numbers due to which they had stationed a limited police force at Harmu Road, Eidgah, and surrounding areas.

At the time of the violence only Hindpiri Station Incharge Vinay Kumar, Kotwali Station Incharge Shailesh Kumar, and Sukhdev Nagar Station Incharge Mamata Kumari were present at the spot. By the time the police reached the spot, it was too late. The aggression of the Jharkhand-Bihar Jamaat erupted and started vandalizing vehicles including a PCR van.

The crowd started chanting slogans. Thereafter, rumors started spreading before Municipal SP Anshuman, City DSP Deepak and Hindpiri, Jagannathpur, and Daily Market Station in-charge reached the spot. The police force had to call for more forces from CT Control Room to bring the mob under control.

  1. Just see they wield sword in funeral procession! Was it a peaceful procession? Govt. should pass legislation to ban posession of and brandishing of swords, spears, daggers and guns in any procession.
