Muslim man who wanted to behead Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has been arrested. The man had called for violence against the leader by posting his picture and another picture of weapons in his social media page.
Baba Yusuf, a hotel worker in Tirunelveli, who goes by the name Yaseen Mass in Facebook had posted the picture of TNBJP President K Annamalai along with the picture of sword-like sharp edged weapons. He had posted “Hindu religious bigot Annamalai’s head should be severed”. The post went viral in social media and a complaint was lodged against Yusuf.
Based on the complaint Yusuf was arrested by Tirunelveli police and booked under IPC sections 153, 153 A, 504, 505(II) and 506 (II) for disturbing communal harmony and inciting violence. Yusuf has the picture of Palani Baba a radical Islamist as his profile picture. He is the Deputy Secretary of Palani Baba Students Association for Tirunelveli town. Palani Baba was a radical Islamic preacher responsible for much of the radicalisation of Muslims in Tamil Nadu today. He advised Muslims to “target Scheduled Caste people in the villages that are poor. Get their daughters married to boys from well-off and respectable Muslim families, as per Muslim custom. Then set them targets for converting people in their neighbourhood”.
He laid out the strategy Muslims now follow a long time back. He said, “consolidate jamaats and mosque administration, mobilize 500 representatives for 5 lakh Muslims in a region. Any time there is trouble, go as 500 people to the authorities”. He was also specific about taking over the executive through democratic means and said, “constituencies should be restructured so that constituencies can become Muslim majority, to get more representatives in Parliament but those Muslim majority constituencies should not become reserved”.
Even though Yusuf who made the call to behead K Annamalai has been arrested, his acquaintances in Palani Baba Students Association, radicalised by the preacher’s teachings continue to be a threat to Annamalai and other BJP and Hindu leaders.
