A video showing Kerala Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan sharing screen space with gold smuggling accused Swapna Suresh had brought to light the deep nexus between the accused and the Kerala government officials including the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The Speaker and CPI(M) leader inaugurated the shop of one of the accused Sandeep Nair and the function was attended by key accused Swapna Suresh. Although the speaker insisted that he erred by attending the inauguration in the video he can be seen tapping the shoulder of Swapna making it amply clear that he shared a healthy relationship with the accused.
State BJP Chief K Surendran raised the issue of the State Assembly Speaker and several ministers of the current dispensation being involved with the Kerala Gold Smuggling case accused on Tuesday. The BJP chief also added that though the role of the CM was discussed, the role of the speaker has not received due attention.
The BJP Chief speaking to the media said “The numerous foreign trips of the Speaker is shrouded in mystery and he has close links with those now arrested. The high post of his has been compromised. The same is the case with a few State Ministers”.
It must be mentioned here that the high profile Kerala Gold Smuggling case is not limited to the CM, his office, Speaker, and other CPI (M) ministers alone but is indicative of a deeper nexus between politicians, judiciary, and Islamists.
As pointed out by the Kerala BJP chief the Speaker’s nexus, in this case, has escaped attention so far despite the fact that the arrested accused Swapna and Sarith are believed to have implicated big sharks from various fields during the course of their interrogation in the case which is now being probed by several central agencies including the NIA.
There is a need to probe into the links between the Kerala Assembly Speaker and Swapna and other accused.
