A minor girl, 15 year old Twinkle Shaw, was raped, murdered and her body found dumped in a coal pit in Jamuria, Asansol, Bardhaman district of West Bengal on 26 January. The accused Mohammed Aftab Alam has been arrested by police after local people complained of police inaction.
Images received from on-ground sources reveal the gruesome rape & murder of this young girl.
When the Asansol MP, Babul Supriyo, tried to visit the family of the victim, he was stopped by police and West Bengal administration on the grounds that his visit would stoke ‘communal tension’. Section 144 has been clamped in the area to prevent Hindus from even voicing their protest. The Union HRD minister Smriti Irani was also stopped from meeting the family. Finally, 6000 locals accompanied Babul Supriyo and his team to overcome massive police resistance and enter Jamuria to meet the family.

In the past, CM Mamta Banerjee has accused rape victims of lying and claimed that such incidents are ‘cooked up’ by political opponents to defame her. She has shouted at protesting villagers to ‘shut up’ and alleged they were ‘plotting to kill her’. Her police officials such as Murshidabad police superintendent Humayun Kabir have displayed extreme callousness in dealing with grieving families.
Women in West Bengal have been the target of many such brutal assaults over the last 4 years, mainly by Muslim criminals. The constant influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants has worsened the law and order situation, with poor Hindus being the prime targets, police sources reveal. The brutality displayed in Jamuria by the accused Mohammed Aftab Alam is not new for West Bengal. Below are some other gruesome crimes which have come to light in the recent past –
7 June, 2013:
20-year-old Shipra Ghosh, a second year BA student of Derozio College, was walking home along the Kamduni BDO Office Road, North 24 Parganas district, in the afternoon, when she was abducted and taken inside a factory where she was gang raped by a gang led by Trinamool party worker Ansar Ali. After raping her, the perpetrators tore apart her legs up to the navel, slit her throat and dumped her body into a nearby field.

25 Oct 2013:
A 16-year-old girl, daughter of Ramshankar Jha – a taxi driver from Bihar, was gang-raped twice in two days in Madhyamgram: once after a man conned her out of home and later when she dared to lodged a police complaint. Associates of the accused allegedly set her on fire and she died on 31 Dec 2013.

25 Feb, 2012:
A 35-year-old Hindu widow travelling with her 11-year-old daughter, was dragged out of the Katwa-Ahmedpur local at gunpoint and gang-raped by 8 Muslim goons (Farid Seikh, Kalam Seikh and 6 others) at a deserted place near the tracks. All five accused in this case, that was dubbed ‘sajano ghatona’ (concocted incident)” by CM Mamata Banerjee, were acquitted by fast-track court judge Kazi Abul Hasseon on November 27 2015 for ‘lack of evidence’.

Suzette Jordan, a single mother of two girls, was raped in a moving car by Kader Khan, assisted by Ruman Khan, Naser Khan, Sumit Bajaj and Mohammed Ali. The men had chatted to her under false names at a night club on Park Street Kolkatta, and then offered her a lift home. The main accused Kader Khan is still absconding, and the victim passed away in March 2015.
Also, harassment of school girls as young as 7 years old by criminals appears to be the new normal in West Bengal.
With such lawlessness increasing by the day and frequent outbreak of riots and mob violence (including brazen attacks on police) by Muslim fundamentalists, it is incomprehensible that TMC leaders like Derek O’Brien are playing politics in far away Hyderabad over the death of Rohith Vemula, or leading candle marches over some vandalism/theft in a Delhi Church; but O’Brien and his boss Mamta Banerjee have nothing to say on such serious crimes in their home state? And why isn’t national media focusing on this issue, which surely takes priority over the contrived antics of a few activists in Shani Shingnapur? Isn’t it time for the Central Government and President to take note of the complete break down of law & order in West Bengal?
