Devotees angry as SHO closed the ghats of Chhath Puja with mud: Delhi

The news is from the Mandavali area of Delhi, where SHO Mandavali closed the ghats for Chhath Puja and filled them with soil. The local organization “Sangathit Purvanchal Ekta Manch and Chhath Pooja Samiti, Mandavali” made complete preparations for organizing the Chhath Pooja in the Mandavali area of Delhi.

The SHO arrived with the police when some of the committee members were engaged in cleaning the ghat. He told the local people to leave and to get permission from the DCP office to organize the event there.

Following this, some committee members went to the DCP office to get permission to organize the event. When those people left, the SHO started closing the ghats by dumping mud. When the crowd there tried to stop them, the SHO pushed them back with the help of the police and threatened to release tear gas. The local people were very angry with this action and could not find a place for worship.

This case highlights how the secular state treats Hindus with highhandedness. It must be emphasized that only Hindu festivals are targeted by the authorities in a highhanded and unjustified manner.
