Bangladesh: Six months passed, the Police failed to recover the kidnapped Hindu woman of Sylhet 

Amid continuous attacks on Hindu temples, kidnapping of both Hindu girls and women are rampant in Muslim majority Bangladesh. Islamists very often kidnap Hindu girls and women. In few cases, the Police recover and in most cases, the Police did not care to recover the kidnapped and missing Hindu girls and women. A such case has been come to light from Sunamganj of Bangladesh. 

Married Hindu woman, Asha Purakayastha(18) has been allegedly kidnapped on 21st of March, 2023. She went to the market and did not return home. Few days later, her family filed a missing complaint in Madhyanagar Police Station. But, six months have been passed, till now, the Police have no clue about the Hindu woman. 

As per received information, Asha Purakayastha was married to Piklu Sarkar. Piklu Sarkar is resident of Rangamati village of Bangshikunda Union under Madhyanagar Police Station of Sunamganj Upozila of Sylhet district. He works as a daily wage labourer. On 21st of March, Asha went to the Madhyanagar market to buy some things of daily necessity. But she didn’t return home. 

On 24th of March, Gopesh Purakayastha, Asha’s uncle, filed a missing complaint in Madhyanagar Police Station. Police officer Moshiur Rahman was appointed as investigating officer in the case. 

Gopesh Purakayastha said, “We have lost all hopes. Even after six months, the Police have no clue about our daughter. Now, we just want to know if she is alive or not.”

He also alleged, “The Police is not doing anything. Every time, they say that they are trying to trace her. We are poor. we have not money to file a case in court. We want the Police to find our daughter.”
