Liberals now want return of British colonial rule – anyone but Modi

That left-liberals of Bharat suffer from severe intolerance to PM Modi is not hidden from anyone. Lutyens’ Delhi just can’t wait for the 2019 elections to usher in a change and mark a return to the pre-2014 Congressi status quo, so they can forget the Modi-years as a bad dream.

But in the last few months, their desperation has surpassed all boundaries. First they started preferring the lame-duck PM of a terrorist state like Pakistan. And now, there are calls for the ‘British to be brought back’, as there is no credible Opposition to replace Modi.

The call for return to British colonial rule was initially made by stand-up comic Kunal Kamra in his latest video. The profanity-laden ‘comic act’ starts by plugging Rahul Gandhi’s routine allegation that Narendra Modi is a stooge of Ambani, and hence Mukesh Ambani should be our PM. He then takes potshots at Hindu Dharma – mocking the Ram Setu bridge between Bharat and Lanka and wondering why legendary Hindu Gods can’t defend themselves.

Finally, he winds up his ‘act’ by admitting that he & his audience have ‘genuinely no option (to replace Modi)’ and hence they should all go and call the Britishers back, by taking placards of ‘Simon come back’ (an unseemly play on the 1928 agitation against the British colonial Simon Commission, when freedom fighters demanded ‘Simon go back’ & stalwarts like Lala Lajpat Rai lost their lives to British police brutality).

How did our nation fall so low that our ‘elite, educated’ youth have no memory of a brutal British colonial rule that killed at least 35 million of our countrymen just through 31 man-made famines over 120 years of British raj (compared with 17 famines in the 2,000 years before British rule) &  siphoned out $45 trillion from Bharat, leaving us a beggar state at the time of independence. This is what US historian Will Durant wrote in 1930 –

“I was filled with astonishment and indignation at the apparently conscious and deliberate bleeding of Bharat by England throughout a hundred and fifty years. I began to feel that I had come upon the greatest crime in all history.”

And this ill-informed rant by a dubious comic is being celebrated by leading lights of the liberal circle – academic Ashok Swain, actress Swara Bhasker (daughter of a military veteran), film maker and composer Vishal Bhardwaj, activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan, television host Mini Mathur, anti-Hindu propaganda outlet Scroll, ‘secular’ NCP politician Jitendra Awhad, ‘student activist’ Umar Khalid (of ‘Bharat tere tukde honge‘ fame) to name a few.

This episode again highlights the urgent need to liberalize the education sector and reform curriculum so that our true history is known to future generations. It also shows how popular culture needs course correction to ensure that we are not saddled with a completely zombified youth who blindly follow whatever globalization deems ‘cool’.
