In Bharat, Hinduphobia has risen in a new heights. Specially, a section of the media openly and directly targets Hindus by several derogatory terms and comments. Recently, a such incident has been witnessed in a programme of mainstream Bengali news channel ‘ABP Ananda’.
Editor-in-Chief of ABP Ananda, Suman De in a TV programme made derogatory ‘cow urine’ jibe to former Justice of the Calcutta High Court Abhijeet Ganguly.
Recently, Justice Ganguly joined the BJP after resigning from his post.
In the interview, during rapid-fire round, Suman De questioned Justice Ganguly about his favourite drink. Suman De questioned, “What is your favourite drink? Darjeeling Tea or Cow Urine?”
As the program aired, the netizens expressed their anger as the cow urine jibe is often used to attack and demean Hindus. Many netizens also called for boycott of ABP Ananda. Many also termed this question as a highly insulting.
Political experts see this comment of ABP Ananda journalist as aligning to the TMC’s stand. Soon after joining the BJP, TMC Supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee criticised Abhijeet Ganguly. Now, ABP Ananda is toeing Mamata’s line and humiliating the former judge by making vile anti-Hindu jibes.
Ironically, this stance of Suman De comes after he was targeted by Mamata’s police over his reporting on Sandeshkhali horror, along with another ABP Ananda journalist Prakash Sinha who was raided for alleged fraud. At the time, it was Hindu activists who had come forward to protest the attack on press freedom, but now Suman De has revealed his inherent Hinduphobia and seemingly buckled under Mamata’s pressure.
