Ever since the demise of the late CM Smt. J Jayalalithaa, Tamil Nadu has seen an increase in crimes such as theft of temple murtis and treasures, desecration of temple properties and Hinduphobia in general. Recently, there was an attempted attack on former Chief Minister Sri. O Panneerselvam by a man with knife at Tiruchirappalli International Airport.
A report appearing in a Tamil news portal said that the man was nabbed by the police when he advanced towards the former Chief Minister who was addressing the press in the midst of his supporters. On searching, the police found a knife in the man’s pocket and he was later detained for interrogation. The man has been identified as Solairajan – a barber by profession. He told police that he carried the knife for self-defense. Certain unconfirmed reports claim that he was a Panneerselvam supporter who was misunderstood by the police. The authenticity of this claim is yet to be proven.
But journalists from certain MSM houses, who always have maintained a stand against Panneerselvam, seem to be twisting this incident to defame the former Chief Minister by calling it staged. This comes days after Sri. O Panneerselvam quoted Ramayana during his speech at his party’s gathering at Ramanathapuram. It must be noted that Ramanthapuram was the assembly constituency of former MLA and one of the founders of Al Ummah – the Islamic fundamentalist body behind 1998 Coimbatore bombings – M. H. Jawahirullah.
Well… #OPS has Y category security, local police & surrounded by party workers…u want us to believe that someone tried to attack him 😰 https://t.co/OHQoQb3Eb7

So in the constituency of a former Islamist MLA and in a state where Dravidian politics has always resorted to bashing of Sri Rama, will the quoting of Ramayana be tolerated under the norms of secularism? The answer for this might be shown soon by the people of Tamil Nadu who already seem to be supporting their former Chief Minister against the lies being spread by MSM journalists who seem to be more comfortable with the Dravidian policy of Hindu bashing under the garb of atheism.
We can imagine the uproar if a similar attempt on the life of a Communist leader had been made in a state like Gujarat – RSS, BJP and PM Modi would have been placed in the dock by now; all but pronounced guilty by the Lutyens’ ayatollahs. But when a ‘communal’ (read practicing Hindu) leader is threatened, even if it is in a state with a history of murderous attacks by Islamists on Hindu leaders, the threat is mocked and derided as ‘political drama.’
