“HC nixes plea against ‘Razakar’,tells petitioner to move CBFC”, Times of India, March 14, 2024:
Telangana high court on Wednesday refused to interfere in the release of ‘Razakar’ movie. Made in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages, the movie is ready to hit the screens on March 15. A bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Anil Kumar was hearing a PIL filed by Mohammed Wasiq Nadim Khan of Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR). Petitioner’s counsel Afsar Jahan said that this film has the dangerous potential to hurt the sentiments of both Hindus and Muslims.
Though India never witnessed genocides, this movie attempts to equate the incidents of 1948 Hyderabad liberation from Nizam with genocide, she said. The movie spoke about the genocide perpetrated by Kasim Rizvi-led Razakars and portrayed the Muslim community as demonized, she said. The bench reminded her that the film was accorded ‘A’ certificate by censors and it has not been challenged.
More over, there were appellate remedies available within CBFC, the bench said, asking her to avail of such remedies first before knocking the doors of HC.
