A young Muslim was arrested for abducting and raping a differently-abled 80-year-old woman while sleeping in Kottiyam, Kollam. Kerala police detained Rashid from Oyyur village in the Kottarakara Taluk for the crime that shook the conscience of many.
The disabled woman was sleeping in front of a shop when Rashid kidnapped and sexually assaulted her at night. The victim seeks alms for a living. After brutally torturing her, the accused left the half-naked victim on the road and escaped from the crime scene.
Shockingly, the lady’s arms and legs are partially missing, yet Rashid showed no mercy towards her. He assaulted and then raped her. The incident took place on Friday morning at one o’clock. The elderly woman suffered injuries to her arms and head.
After the incident, the CCTV footage of the brutal abuse of the woman was also released. In the subsequent investigation, it was understood that Rashid was the assailant.
The footage showed the accused approaching the victim and trying to remove her clothes. When the lady woke up and resisted, Rashid punched her several times on her head and knocked her to the ground. He then carried her away.
In the morning, the lady was found half-naked in a pool of blood at a deserted place near Sithara Junction, about one and a half kilometers away. She was first seen by a temple Poojari and an auto driver who reached the nearby temple in the morning. They gave her some clothes and took the elderly lady to the hospital. A watchman informed the victim’s son, and he registered a police complaint.
Even after atrocities against women and children have increased dramatically recently, the green communists ruling Kerala still claim the state is number one in women’s safety. Criminals have lost fear since law and order are in shambles. It is feared that Rashid will get some soft jail time and will again stalk the streets pretty soon.
