Jumailath kills her three-day-old newborn baby in Malappuram

The body of a three-day-old newborn baby boy killed by its mother in Tanur, Malappuram, was exhumed today. Ottumpuram native, Andikkad house Jumailath (29), a native of Pariyapuram village near Tanur in Malappuram, killed the baby three days ago. The body will be shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Mortuary for a post-mortem. Jumailath gave birth to her baby at the Kozhikode Medical College.

Based on a tip-off, Jumailath was taken into police custody on Wednesday. During the interrogation, Jumailath told the police that she buried the baby’s body in her backyard near a palm tree and covered the spot. She was arrested after her confession. Jumailath had been separated from her husband for a year.

The woman gave birth to a baby on 26 February and returned to her house in Tanur with the baby. The latest child was her fourth baby. Later, she allegedly killed the child. The real motive behind the murder is still unclear.

All her three children live with Jumailath in a home she shares with her mother. Jumailath claimed that she downed her baby when her mother was asleep.

Police have started an investigation into the incident. The information about the murder came out during the inquiry conducted based on the confidential information provided by the locals.

Tirur Tehsildar S Sheeja and Tanur DySP VV Benni were present when the body was exhumed. The police took Jumailath to the crime scene and exhumed the three-day-old baby’s body in her presence. The police forensic team also inspected the spot. Jumailath admitted that she drowned the child in a bucket filled with water.

Jumailath claimed she decided to kill her child, fearing defamation. The woman told the police that she had been estranged from her husband for a year. She was married to a Kozhikode native. According to her confession presented to the authorities, Jumailath killed her son to conceal the fact that she had given birth.

According to some reports, the police have reportedly detained another person. Further details are awaited. Local media is trying hard to portray the crime as an act of desperation. Is population jihad leading to such heinous acts as infanticides?
