Drunk Muslim lady Raseela enters Kannur Muthappan Temple

Vadakkumpatt Raseela, a notorious lady alcoholic, desecrated the Illikunnu Sree Muthappan Kavu near Thalassery, Kannur. She arrived unable to stand straight, pestered priests, abused the Bhagwan, and casually left.

Bhagwan Muthappan is considered the personification of two Hindu gods — the Thiruvappan or Valiya Muthappan (Vishnu) and the Vellatom or Cheriya Muthappan (Shiva). He is especially revered throughout Malabar and Coorg in Karnataka.

Muthappan is worshipped inside a Madappura. Madayans perform poojas, and usually, the senior male members of the family are in charge of all administrative and managerial activities. All family members help him in managing the Madappura.

29-year-old Raseela hails from a Muslim family in Thalassery, but she now lives in rented quarters near Pinarayi, 10 km away. The whole region is now green communist territory. Most temples in Kerala do not promote the entry of non-Hindus, but there is a concerted effort from a particular section to exclude Muthappan Temples from this scheme of things.

Raseela did lewd acts against the senior citizen seated before the Bhagwan. She stumbled into the Madayan several times and swayed through her ‘drunken’ act. The Madayan kept his cool, and Raseela turned towards the Bhagwan.

If you come into my dreams, neither your flower necklace nor your bouquet will remain. I will turn your turmeric into chilly powder.

With these comments, she abused onlookers, stumbled into her waiting car, and left. Though it was dark and past dusk, Raseela seemed to slip into the passenger side. Was someone directing the whole Temple desecration?

Raseela is an auto driver’s daughter and a shady character who neither works nor has a known source of income. That does not prevent her from getting caught driving drunk and brawling all over town in broad daylight.

Since she is a drunk lady, most victims never retaliate. She likes to drive while drunk and usually bumps into another vehicle. Raseela also owns fancy cars.

Suspiciously, though she has been caught on camera several times hitting innocent fellow drivers, police release her almost instantly. Every time a confrontation happens, Raseela is drunk and can barely stand properly. Though the Muthappan Temple operation happened after sundown, most of her drunken antics are reserved for daylight.

Recently, Raseela drove her car into a couple traveling in a scooter and thrashed those questioning her. Three months ago, the lady caused a car accident in Mahe, 10 km from Thalassery. In January, she created a ruckus inside a hospital.

Mahe is a bad example of colonialism and does not charge taxes for alcohol. Kerala’s worst open bar is now attracting alcoholics from far and wide. Many, including women and children, have fallen for drugs like MDMA. Incidentally, Mahe police know well how to handle violent drunks.

As mentioned earlier, locals fail to reciprocate when Raseela turns aggressive. They fear that even the intention of outraging her modesty might lead to a five-year jail term. Yet, Raseela’s tantrums have taken their toll. Many locals appealed to the authorities to eject her from Thalassery.

Raseela’s behavior has left local police frustrated. Hindus know the lady is lucky that she does not feel the urge to indulge in her theatrics inside the local mosque.

It is unknown how many times Raseela desecrated Hindu Temples. The Muthappan Kavu incident came to light when someone took a viral video on social media. Unless someone steps in to restrain such ladies, things can easily go out of hand and end in communal violence.

Locals alleged that she has single-handedly caused km-long traffic jams, yet police bail her out of the station once she sobers up. This has encouraged Raseela to insult and assault the innocent public. Allegedly, some dark forces are using such ladies for unknown operations. Was someone using the Muthappan incident to test the waters?
