The favored trick of manufacturing a ‘blasphemous’ Facebook post was allegedly used yet again to target Hindus in Bagerhat district of Bangladesh. Two separate attacks occurred, one in Morrelganj and the other in Chitalmari upazilas.
According to eyewitnesses and locals, Kaushik Biswas (20), son of Romani Biswas, was summoned to Jame Mosque in Amarbunia village, Morrelganj upazila (sub-district) around 5 pm on April 11 on suspicion of “hurting religious sentiments” in a Facebook post.
A few hours later, hundreds of people from nearby villages gathered and marched to Kaushik’s house. They set a haystack on fire and vandalised his house, reports The Daily Star. Later, the Sarbajanin Durga temple’s fence was also damaged.
In videos shared by human rights activists, one can hear a mob chanting “Nar-e-Takbir…Allah-o-Akbar” as the house burns.
However, images shared on social media suggest more than one house was set ablaze, and the same has been claimed in a FB post by one Sumon Kumar Roy on behalf of the Bangladesh Hindu Parishad. Amarbunia village is home to at least 52 Hindu families, and many of them said they are living in a state of uncertainty.
Kaushik Biswas has been detained by police for ‘interrogation’. Police claims the situation is now ‘normal’ and legal action is being taken and the house owner would be given a ‘fair trial’. Muslim extremists openly spreading hate and inciting violence on social media were also noted, although its not clear if police has taken any action on these.
In a separate incident in Bagerhat district, Basanti Durga temple in Serampore village of Chitalmari upazila was attacked and vanadlized by 50-100 Muslim extremists while puja was being carried out.
As per reports, 16 people have been arrested by police for the vandalism and arson at Amarbunia. However, whether they are convicted and jailed is another question, as Bangladesh’s track record in prosecuting anti-Hindu fanatics is very poor.
Activists have also questioned the routine promises by authorities of providing relief and rebuilding houses. Some believe the token amount offered is actually a nudge to leave Bangladesh and flee to Bharat. They want justice and an end to these almost daily attacks on Hindus on some pretext or the other. Hindus allege systemic bias and political protection for the perpetrators. The fear is that this will become yet another forgotten episode in the never-ending list of anti-Hindu hate crimes in Bangladesh.
Update
22 April, 11.30 PM: It was brought to our notice that some ‘fact checkers’ are trying to discredit news about the arson and vandalism at a Hindu home in Amarbunia village, as the image shared by Hindu activists is a stock/representative image and not related to the incident. We have added a caption to this article’s featured image to make it clear that while the image is representative, the two incidents of attacks on Hindus are very much true.
Better to do population transfer of all Hindus in pakistan & bangladesh to India and send off the 30+ Cr muzzies to these 2 countries!
The Hindus will be routed out from Bangladesh within a decade. They will be either killed or converted or forced to evict Bangladesh (like the Rohingyas from Myanmar). The Jihadists there are always fabricating newer and newer plans, plotting vvolatile issues via Facebook or thru other social media. And then there are notorious Moulvis who set them on the Hindus. In this charged atmosphere, the ammunition is always ready: BLASPHEMY!
This is the absolute allegation! None will question it! None will analyze it, forget to verify whether it is right or false! Blind in rage and hate against the Hindus, these Muslim fanatics attack the Hindus, their temples, their houses & their lives like wolves destroying everything in their path.
Bangladesh Govt. is too weak or rather afraid of the Jihadists to safeguard the Hindus. And as a result onslaught of the Hindus continues day after day. By mid-2030 there will be no Hindu in Bangladesh!
