No Ram Puja in Jadavpur University? Urban Naxals & SFI allegedly issue Talibani Fatwa, attack organisers

While the whole of Bharat was excited about the return of Sri Rama to his birthplace, Ayodhya, the picture was different in some parts of West Bengal. Hindus organised various pujas and other events on the occasion of the Pran Patishtha of the Ram Mandir in all parts of the country, but urban Naxal and SFI student organisations have been accused of issuing a Talibani fatwa and attacking the organisers of a programme related to the Ram Mandir in Kolkata’s Jadavpur University.

It is learned that on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22, the general Hindu students of the Jadavpur university organised a special puja, live streaming of Pran Pratishtha, Dipotsav, and distribution of Prasad. Allegedly, as soon as the poster for this event came out, the organisers started getting threats from the Naxal and leftist cadres of the university one after another. In addition, there have been allegations of targeted social bullying by Naxal and Leftist cadres.

One of the organising Hindu students at Jadavpur University is Sabyasachi Saha. It is alleged that apart from being a host, Sabyasachi has been specially targeted and abused in various ways to cause mental distress as he is a disabled person. Sabyasachi said at one point through a Facebook post, “I am extremely sorry if I had hurt someone as I got emotionally influenced by the extensive campaign related to spreading the message of establishment of Ram Temple and supported the initiative of screening the same in the campus. I am a disabled student so I am being targeted and abused . I am now mentally distressed and exhausted. I declare that I am no more associated with the initiative. Thank you all for understanding.”

However, despite threats and bullying, yesterday morning at the Jadavapur university premises, the organisers continued with the pre-arranged puja arrangements related to the Pran Patishtha of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya. It is alleged that around 12 o’clock, Naxal and leftist cadres of the university came together at the venue and ambushed the organising Hindu students. In the video footage, several Naxals and leftist cadres were seen beating many of the organisers and chasing the rest.

The victim Hindu students believe that the alleged threat makers are behind the planning of the attack on this puja. The names of those who have appeared in the list of these alleged threat makers are:Fazle Wakil (PHD, IR, Jadavpur University, now staying in Kolkata, originally from Malda), Saptarshi Chatterjee from Kolkata, Souvik Saha (M. Tech, Biomedical Engineering, Jadavpur University, from Dum Dum and Kanchrapara), Anish Ray (Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University, from Durgapur), Nilay Ghosh (Jadavpur University, from Santragachhi), Nazbul Gazi (B.A. and M.A., Jadavpur University, from Canning and Jadavpur), and SFI Jadavpur University.

One of the accused attackers

Several organising Hindu students, including Aditya Pallei and Vishwayan Bhandari, were reported injured in the attack by Naxal and leftist cadres. It is to be noted that religious programmes like Iftar Party were organised earlier on the campus of Jadavpur University, but no fatwa or threat was given in that regard. But why do fatwas and allegations of attacks happen during events related to the Hindu community? Naturally, these questions are being raised.

Netizens are already calling Jadavpur University “Jamatpur University” on social media. They also raised the question: Are the Naxals and leftists walking on the paths of Islamist Fatwa and attacking in Taliban style?
