The construction of a mosque on the iconic Raigad fort came to light recently as a video showing men moving stones for the same went viral on social media. The impunity with which the mosque is being built throwing rules to the wind has shocked users who pointed out that permission of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under whose aegis the fort falls, is needed even for minor repairs.
As the video came to light, Yuvraj Sambhaji stepped in and raised the issue with the archaeological department.
In his letter, Yuvraj Sambhaji pointed out that followers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had brought to his notice the construction of a mosque within the Raigad Fort premises. He also highlighted that it was illegal to raise such structures on places of historic importance. “It is unfortunate that illegal construction activities are allowed to go on in an iconic place like the Raigad Fort”, he wrote.
Furthermore, he has asked that to maintain the character, sanctity, and historicity of the fort, it is necessary that the mosque be removed immediately while additionally demanding that an immediate ban be placed on any construction activity within the fort premises to ensure that no such activity takes place again.

A similar Mosque is constructed on the top of “Golkonda fort” Hyderabad. “Golkonda fort” has a “Kali-maata” temple constructed in the 11th century. The entire fort is under the jurisdiction of “ASI”. Yet a new Masjid building is clearly visible on the top of the fort.
