Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 01 June to 07 June 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) Habiba Khatun from Silchar (Cachar district) in Assam was arrested for posting derogatory comments and making vile references to Devi Kali and Maa Durga.

2) Amit Kumar, a resident of Bettiah, reportedly became involved in a relationship with a local girl. According to police investigations, this relationship triggered the ire of Islamists leading to a meticulously planned and brutal murder. The accused, identified as Phool Muhammad and Raju Miyan, allegedly lured Amit to a secluded location, killed him, and then dismembered his body to conceal the evidence.

3) In a deeply distressing case reported from Bhilai in Durg district, a 26-year-old woman has filed a complaint alleging that she was subjected to prolonged sexual exploitation, emotional manipulation, and religious coercion over a period of nearly ten years. The accused Islamist, identified as Badshah Khan (28), has been arrested and sent to judicial custody by the Bhilai Nagar Kotwali police.

4) Bombay HC has given permission to Muslims to slaughter animals at the dargah inside Vishalgadh Fort during Bakrid and Urs despite ongoing legal battle against illegal encroachment around it.

5) On 2 June, reports emerged from Kanyakumari district that a Christian pastor had physically assaulted his two minor sons. The reason, as revealed by the police investigation, was that the children had played with a Hindu neighbor’s child. The pastor, reportedly angered by this interaction, resorted to violence against his sons, causing injuries that required medical attention. The incident came to light after a video of the assault surfaced on social media, prompting swift action by local authorities.

6) A serious incident has come to light in a residential area under the Sector-29 police station, where a beggar has been accused of the rape of a 13-year-old Hindu girl. The person accused of a crime is named Momin, and he lives in a village called Jalpaad. Following the incident, a medical examination at the district civil hospital confirmed the assault. The Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) One acted swiftly, apprehending the suspect.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) Sarbajanin Sri Sri Mahasamshan Kali Mandir in the Salimpur Union of Sitakunda Upazila, Chittagong District, Bangladesh, was attacked and set ablaze by unidentified extremists. The incident took place around 3 am on 31 May when assailants stormed the Sarbajanin Sri Sri Mahasamshan Kali Mandir, a semi-pucca structure, and proceeded to vandalize the murti of Maa Kali along with other sacred images before torching the premises.

2) A case of abduction and rape of a minor girl belonging to the minority community was reported from the Sylhet district. The arrested Islamist has been identified as Rabiul Haque Rayhan. Rabiul Haque Rayhan is a resident of Biday Sulapani village under the jurisdiction of the Biswanath Police Station. The victim girl, a minor(15) is a resident of Ilimpur village under the jurisdiction of same police station.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing hindupost.in@gmail.com. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
