Evangelists who tried to fool people into believing grape juice as Jesus’ blood and coerced into converting to Christianity have been booked in Maharashtra. Hindus were told they would not need to visit doctors if they started worshipping Jesus and that their god was more powerful than other gods. They were encouraged to discard Hindu deities’ images and murtis from their homes.
The video of some evangelists offering some red color liquid to a family, saying that it is the blood of Jesus and drinking it will cure diseases, went viral on social media. Later details emerged that the family approached by evangelists, filed a complaint against the latter for abusing Hindu dharma and spreading superstitious beliefs. Organiser reported that Uddhav Nagnath Kambale (48), a resident of Sathe Nagar in Alandi, Pune filed the complaint on January 4 at the Alandi police station.
Kamble named one Sudhakar Bapburao Suryvanshi and two others in the complaint accusing them of trying to convert his family to Christianity. Kamble comes from a village in the Latur district and resides in Alandi to work at a crematorium as a daily wager. Kamble has said in his complaint that the accused came to his house on January 1, offering them grape juice calling it the blood of Jesus. They claimed drinking it would cure all ailments and they would never have to visit hospitals.
They also abused Hindu deities saying only Jesus is superior and other gods are evil. They asked people to discard the images and murtis of deities kept in their homes. “These gods of yours are of no use. Your God cannot heal your sickness. Take their picture and throw it away. They are the source of the problem. Abandon your religion and embrace Christianity. Here it is, the blood of Jesus Christ to drink. Worship only Jesus Christ”, they were told.
They were further fooled that the evangelists had better mantras for their betterment. Kamble has accused Suryavanshi and his companions of forcing him to attend, conduct prayers and convert to Christianity. His complaint accuses the evangelists of spreading superstition. Police registered a case against 3 people whom Kambke had mentioned in his complaint for forced conversion and spreading superstition.
