In a recent incident in Samaro, Sindh, a young woman named Anita Meghwar, who is blind Hindu girl is now in the spotlight for her conversion to Islam and subsequent marriage.
According to reports, Anita, the daughter of Lalu Meghwar, aged 18 years, a resident of Wahid Colony in Naukot, was allegedly kidnapped, subjected to sexual assault, and forcibly converted to Islam. The accused in this case is identified as “Mohammed Ayub,” also known by aliases such as Peer Jan Sarhandi and Baba Sai. Anita was reportedly married to a man named Afzal Ali.
According to a report in The Daily Barsaat Karachi, she is said to have said, “I am a Muslim, my Islamic name is Fatima, according to Sharia, I am married to Afzal Ali, and I am a woman”
However, the situation has taken a complex turn, as sources suggest that Anita may have left her home of her own accord four days ago. It is claimed that she arrived at the Dargah Gulzar e Khalil in Samaro and entered into a marriage with Afzal Ali, indicating her conversion to Islam.
These conflicting accounts have led to a contentious debate, with some asserting that Anita willingly embraced Islam and chose to marry Afzal Ali. Her conversion and subsequent marriage have raised questions about religious freedom, as well as concerns regarding the circumstances that led to her decisions.
In Pakistan, every single day, there is a report of the abduction and forceful conversion of Hindu girls, especially minors. In such a scenario, it is highly probable that in Anita’s case as well, she may have been forced to convert and marry.
