West Bengal: Hindu woman, who works in a tea garden, raped; Police arrested Joriful Islam

Police arrested Joriful Islam for allegedly raping a Hindu woman who works in a tea garden. The incident happened on Wednesday morning at Matri TeGardenen under the Chopra Police Station area of Uttar Dinajpur district. 

As per local sources, today morning, the victim woman went to work in the tea garden. Joriful Islam allegedly dragged her and raped her. The woman shouted for help. Upon hearing her scream others rushed and saved her. But accused Joriful managed to flee. 

Angry over this incident, workers of different tea gardens unitedly blocked road in Kanchakali bazaar. They demanded an immediate arrest of the accused.

Later, a huge police force reached area. Police talked with the protesters and promised to arrest the accused. Within hours, the accused Joriful Islam was arrested. The victim woman was taken to Dolua Block Hospital for treatment. 

Tea Workers’ Union leader Apu Das said, “Today, the incident happened while working in the garden. Angry workers staged a protest. A written complaint is filed at Chopra Police station.”
