In a harrowing tale of marital abuse and legal violations, a woman from Gonda, UP, has endured a series of traumatic events involving triple talaq, halala, and remarriage, only to face divorce once again. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed for privacy reasons, entered into a Nikah ceremony with Mohd Tosawwar in September 2023. However, upon stepping into her new marital home, she was confronted with the distressing reality that her husband was already married and a father to five children.
Based on reports by Aaj Tak, the situation quickly escalated into a nightmare of domestic violence and financial exploitation. In December 2023, the woman was subjected to brutal beatings over dowry demands and subsequently ousted from her matrimonial abode. Adding insult to injury, Islamist Mohd Tosawwar pronounced triple talaq, severing all ties with his wife.
In a shocking turn of events, Mohd Tosawwar expressed a desire for reconciliation, prompting his mother to propose the controversial practice of halala. The victim was coerced into undergoing halala with her brother-in-law, Islamist Mohd Tosawwar’s younger sibling, in January 2024.
Following the halala procedure, which mandates a woman to marry another man and subsequently get divorced before remarrying her former husband, the victim reunited with Mohd Tosawwar. However, the fleeting semblance of normalcy was shattered when Mohd. Tosawwar initiated divorce proceedings once again.
In response to the egregious violations of marital rights and the blatant exploitation endured by the victim, authorities have taken swift action. A case has been registered against all involved parties, including Islamist Mohd Tosawwar and his family, under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to domestic violence, dowry harassment, and the illegal practice of triple talaq and halala.
Recent incidents in Uttar Pradesh have highlighted the targeted exploitation of Hindu girls by Islamist perpetrators. Concurrently, Islamist individuals have also been found perpetrating abuse within their own community. However, amidst these challenges, a recent case in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, presents a notable contrast.
