TN: Maulvi sexually abuses young woman on the pretext off driving evil spirits away

A maulvi had tried to violate a young woman on the pretext of warding off evil spirits in Tamil Nadu. He had used some substance in the form of incense sticks to make her lose consciousness and tried to sexually abuse her.

A 22 year old married woman near Pennadam in Cuddalore has been ill for a few days. Even after being treated in a hospital she wasn’t recovering. Neighbours and relatives allegedly convinced her husband that she is possessed by some evil spirit and advised him to take her to a dargah in Pennadam.

Taking their advice he took her to the dargah along with his uncle and a female relative. Abdul Ghani, the 54 year old maulvi in the dargah tied some thread on their hands and asked them to leave the room so that he could chase the evil spirits. Curious to know how it’s done, the victim’s husband peeked through a window in the room.

To his utter shock he saw Abdul Ghani putting some incense near his wife’s nostrils upon smelling which she fainted promptly. Ghani laid her head on his lap and proceeded to sexually violate the unconscious woman. Victim’s husband immediately entered the room and rescued her.

He took her to the nearest police station and filed a complaint against Abdul Ghani. Polimer News reported that police tried to dissuade him from filing a complaint and sent him off. As the victim belongs to a Scheduled Caste, the matter went to the ears of the Superintendent of Police after which Ghani was booked under relevant sections on outraging a woman’s modesty and Women Atrocities Act. He was arrested but reportedly escaped from the police station.

TOI Tamil reported that the maulvi had struck a deal with the cops at first fearing that if the incident became public knowledge, his “reputation” as an “exorcist” would be ruined. Cops allegedly accepted a bribe and let him go after making the husband sign a statement saying nothing happened. Abdul Ghani feared that women will not come to him for exorcism and reportedly paid lakhs of rupees as bribe to the cops.

How many women were subjected to such sexual abuse by Ghani using the fainting incense sticks will be known only if the police investigate properly. In 2017, Aijaz Sheik, a Kashmiri maulvi was arrested for raping 6 minor boys on the pretext of driving away evil spirits.

  1. 55+ years of Congress misrule had given more than what they deserve to the so called minorities! It’s a high time to look into such things and set it right and to start with Common Civil Code as advised by Supreme Court shld be the first step in this directions, followed by Anti Conversion Act by GOI…etc etc! Jai Hind!

  2. Hindus have become second class citizens due to the faults of Hindus. Why I am telling this because when Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi started undermining Hindus, it’s Hindus in their team who didn’t forced them to drop their evil agenda of undermining Hindus and support muslims for their utter evil intention.
If all the Hindu members revolted against them at the first instance then they would not have the guts to appease muslims and undermine Hindus.
