Three POCSO cases involving Islamists from Kerala

Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) cases are rising in Kerala and most accused persons belong to a particular community. A 73-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in Malappuram. Moideenkutty, a native of Kuttipuram, was arrested by the police. The police registered a case against him following a complaint by the child’s parents.

The accused was arrested following an investigation conducted by the police. Moideen sodomized the minor more than once. The pedophile was produced in Tirur court and remanded.

A private college owner was arrested in a Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case in Palakkad. Trithala police arrested Ali (64), a resident of Anakkara. He was running a Parallel College in Kumaranallur.

Ali was arrested on separate complaints filed by two female students. Children who were victims of harassment informed the Ward Counselor and filed a complaint with the police through the school principal. After interrogation, the accused was produced before the court and remanded.

Another Islamist who sexually assaulted a minor girl claiming she was possessed by the devil was arrested from Thissur. Palakkaveetil Alikutty Mastan (60) was arrested. Mastan tortured a thirteen-year-old girl under the guise of witchcraft.

The child’s superstitous father believed in witchcraft and approached Mastan to help him to get rid of the problems at home. After this, Mastan came to the girl’s house and made the family believe that the girl’s body was possessed by the devil.

To get rid of the ‘evil spirits,’ Mastan locked up himself and the child in a closed room and sexually assaulted the minor. The pedophile later called the child to his house and continued the torture. A police complaint was filed after the girl informed her family.

The girl’s father filed a complaint with the police in the incident following which Mastan was detained. The accused was produced in the court and remanded for 14 days.

Malappuram Kalpakancheri police arrested the accused. According to the police, Mastan has committed several frauds under the guise of witchcraft. The police are also investigating whether he has molested other minors.
