Telangana woman Chandana and boyfriend Omar Shaikh Sultan arrested for murdering her sister

In Telangana’s Jagitial district, a shocking incident unfolded as a 20-year-old woman, Banka Chandana, and her 25-year-old boyfriend, Omar Shaikh Sultan, were apprehended by the police for allegedly murdering the woman’s 22-year-old elder sister, Banka Deepti in Korutla town on the night of August 28. The couple had been evading authorities since the incident.

Revealing this distressing development to the press, Jagitial Superintendent of Police, Aggadi Bhaskar, shared that the accused individuals, Banka Chandana and Omar Shaik Sultan, were captured by the police on the Armoor-Balkonda road in Nizamabad district while en route to Nagpur.

The police officer explained the case’s background, especially the information about the accused.
Banka Chandana joined BTech in 2019 at Mallareddy Engineering College. Omar Shaikh was a senior, and they both became classmates after a year of detention. They grew closer and fell in love.
Bhaskar explained that Chandana’s sister, Deepti, a software engineer working from home at a multinational company in Hyderabad, was discovered under suspicious circumstances at her Korutla residence.
Her parents, who were in Hyderabad for a family function, grew concerned when they couldn’t reach her by phone. They asked neighbors to check on her, leading to the grim discovery of her lifeless body on a sofa in her home. The house had signs of a scuffle, and 2 lakh rupees in cash and gold ornaments were reported missing.
Subsequent investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, indicated that Chandana had left the residence with a man on the same night. Deepti’s father filed a police report, expressing suspicions about her younger sister, who had vanished.

The victim’s brother, working in Bengaluru, received an audio message from Chandana claiming innocence in the murder. She mentioned going out after drinking with Deepti, who had fallen asleep. However, Chandana did not disclose her whereabouts or why she had gone missing.

Police Statement on Murder

Chandana planned to marry Omar, but since they did not have money to set up a life, she devised a plan to make it possible. On August 28, she called Omar and said her parents had gone to Hyderabad to attend a function. She also told him that only she and her sister Deepti were home and asked him to come by and take the money and gold.

The police said that Chandana gave her sister a bottle of vodka and a breezer to drink. At 2 AM that night, Omar messaged and arrived at the backside of Chandana’s home with a car. When they were taking the gold and money, Deepti woke up and apprehended Chandana. Chandana strangled her with a scarf from behind, and she fell on the sofa.

Omar and Chandana together put a plaster on Deepti’s mouth. They took the 2 lakh rupees money and 70 tola gold. They removed the plaster and scarf and created a scene as if she died because of drinking the alcohol. Then they went to Hyderabad as per their plan, where Omar’s mother, sister, and friend live, and then onward to Nagpur, which was also part of their plan.

Upon questioning, Chandana admitted to the gruesome crime. She revealed that she and Omar had killed Deepti, who had objected to their relationship. Deepti tragically succumbed to suffocation within 10 minutes, and Chandana and Omar fled the scene with the stolen cash and gold.
Initially classified as a suspicious death, the Korutla police later amended the case to murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing as authorities delve deeper into this distressing incident. Whether this is an instance of love jihad is also being discussed among social network circles.
