In the Bathinda district, Shaina, who works in a salon at Bank Bazaar in Rama Mandi, posted a video on Instagram on Wednesday night (24 January) insulting Bhagwan Ram and his devotees. After the video went viral, the traders, Hindu religious organizations, and locals in Rama Mandi closed the market on Thursday as a protest.
They marched to Gandhi Chowk, demanding the arrest of Shaina and strict action against her. The police increased security in the market due to the situation’s sensitivity. Rambhakts closed their shops, gathered at Gandhi Chowk, and voiced their concerns against the police. BJP leaders, Zilla president Ravipreet Singh Sidhu and Talwandi Sabo in-charge Sukhpal Singh Saran, joined the protest. Talwandi Sabo Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Rajesh Snehi, filed a case against Shaina and arrested her.
