A POCSO court has given the death sentence to a culprit in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh. The decision has come after about three and a half years of the crime being committed. The accused Farooq, who hails from Sheikhpur Unwa, has been sent to police custody immediately after the court’s order.
As per police sources, Farooq abducted an 8-year-old girl on July 9, 2019. He lured her and took her to his home, where he raped her and then killed her mercilessly by strangulating her. He then hid the dead body in a straw sack.
The victim’s family filed a police complaint on 10 July, 2019. The victim’s mother accused Farooq may have kidnapped her daughter, as her neighbor Aaqib saw him with her daughter. When police questioned him, he confessed that he killed the girl and buried her in the straw stack.
Police produced 14 witnesses, who confirmed the involvement of Farooq in this heinous crime. Court has also ordered him to pay Rs. 25,000 penalty, and slapped him with 7 years rigorous imprisonment and a Rs. 10,000 penalty under section 363 of IPC.
The victim’s family welcomed the pronouncement of the death sentence, and they said that the soul of their daughter will be in peace. On the other hand, Farooq’s relatives have decided to approach the High Court against the death sentence.
India is a “secular” country .
The victim was a 8 year old Hindu girl. Therefore, no one knows about this case. Compare to a similar case where victim was similar aged Muslim girl (Aasifa). The difference in national reaction is astounding. If one is horrifying, so is the other. I’m saying both cases are horrifying. But the national outrage is zero for this case. That is the tragedy of Hindus in India.
