Pastor who helped man sell his baby arrested in TN

Tamil Nadu police arrested a pastor for his involvement in selling a baby illegally. The pastor had helped sell the baby for Rs 2 lakhs. The baby’s father and the pastor’s accomplice were arrested along with him.

Chandrasekhar, a 25 year old man from Karnataka entered into a relationship with a young woman. He brought her to Chennai and rented a house to live with her. He sexually exploited her on the promise of marriage as a result of which the woman conceived and delivered a girl child in February 2022.

Chandrasekhar planned to sell the child without the knowledge of the mother. He became acquainted with pastor Francis and Thenmozhi while trying to find an opportunity to sell the child. The pastor and the woman helped Chandrasekhar sell the child to a couple in Erode, TN for Rs 2 lakhs.

Meanwhile the mother started pestering Chandrasekhar for the whereabouts of the child. But he broke their relationship and married another woman. Shocked by this, the woman filed a complaint with the All Women Police station in Thenampettai, Chennai. Based on the complaint police arrested Chandrasekhar, pastor Francis and Thenmozhi.

It is unclear whether it was an one off incident or the pastor was involved in a racket of selling babies. One might recall the heart-wrenching Mose Ministries saga in which tens of girl babies were separated from their families and raised to be the foot soldiers of Christian proselytisation. The Kollimalai child trafficking racket in which Catholic priests were involved also comes to mind.
