Married madrassa teacher who absconded with 18-year-old girl from Meerut arrested from Gurugram after a month

Madrassa teacher Noorhasan Wasim from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh who groomed a young girl and absconded with her a month ago was arrested at Gurugram in Haryana. Wasim is married and left his wife and two children behind in Meerut.

It was on the 25th of January that the young girl left for tuition and later went missing. She is a resident of Mawana town, around 25 km from Meerut. When her relatives searched for the young girl, they found that Wasim too was missing.

Wasim was a constant visitor at the girl’s house and they are from the same community. Her relatives tried to contact the accused but his phone was switched off. They went to his house but found that both Wasim and his family were missing.

Later they found that the madrassa teacher had shifted his family to a nearby place. However, they did not know his whereabouts. It was only then that the girl’s father approached the police. He alleged that the madrassa teacher had groomed his daughter and lured her away.

Police station in-charge Vishnu Kaushik said that Wasim’s phone was put under surveillance and they found that he was moving from place to place in Delhi. They raided many locations but he managed to give them the slip each time.

On the 22nd of February, the family and relatives of the girl got information that the madrasa teacher and the girl were living in a rented house at Gurugram. They immediately informed the Police who then raided the place. The girl was in bed while the madrassa teacher was making tea.

Both were taken back to Meerut and police interrogated the accused. They were presented in court and the girl was moved to a correctional institute, Nari Niketan. There are allegations that Wasim’s repeated escapes just before the police arrived and the ease with which he moved around Delhi for almost one month indicates the involvement of external parties.

The police assured strict action against the madrassa teacher and said that they are investigating.
