Maharashtra: Hindu woman refuses to convert, beaten by Christian husband for 2 decades

Maharashtra police have booked a Christian man for physically abusing his wife for more than 20 years for not converting to Christianity. He harassed her parents as well and wanted the children to be converted. He threw away the images and murtis of Hindu deities worshipped by his wife.

On December 3, Yerawada police registered an FIR against one Ravindersingh Bhanwarsingh Rajpurohit based on a complaint from his Rajpurohit had converted to Christianity 21 years ago and he has been torturing his wife to leave Hindu dharma and embrace Christianity since 2001. Even the in-laws were not spared as the man beat them along with his wife when they refused to convert.

He also threatened to send their children to a Christian school. In his ‘efforts’ to make the family give up Hindu dharma he threw away murtis of Hindu deities in the river and gave away the pictures of deities as well. Their children are studying in a reputed school in Pune, the woman said in her complaint and accused her husband of threatening to enroll them in a Christian school.

Fed up with incessant harassment she filed a complaint with Yerawada police on December 3. She worried that her children’s studies were being affected due to physical and mental harassment and the stressful environment in the house. Police have registered an FIR and an investigation is underway.
