Families of abducted Hindu girls in Pakistan skip Diwali celebrations

Many Hindu families, especially those living in Sindh province, whose teenaged girls have been abducted, raped and forcibly converted to Islam, didn’t celebrate the festival of Diwali as a symbol of their protest against these crimes, reports Times of India.

“There is no reason for these families to celebrate Diwali; they have been running from pillar to post to get justice, which is denied to them,” said a Hindu leader from Sindh, who didn’t wish to give his name.

Abduction, rape, forced conversion and marriage of minor Hindu girls is a common occurrence in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. At least 1000 minority girls suffer such sex slavery every year in Sindh province alone. Some dargahs and Islamic religious institutions like Bharchundi Sharif run by the notorious Mian Mithoo are nerve centers of this abduction and forced conversion racket.

Apart from this, Pakistani Hindus face systemic and institutionalised discrimination and neglect, such as frequent attacks on Hindu temples, demonization in education curriculum, police and judicial antipathy, denial of fundamental rights, bonded labor and untouchability.

  1. Honestly, I do not read these stories since they are extremely depressing. I stopped reading stories of Hindu girls abductions in Pakistan some time ago since it is perhaps the most depressing thing any decent Hindu can come across. Instead, again I am asking: is there a way we can help them financially? Can we help w/ the legal team’s expenses? I will contribute modestly. Pl. link here the details.
