Chemist Amarjeet Sharma brutally murdered in Kathua, protests erupt as family demands justice

A chemist named Amarjeet Sharma was brutally murdered in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. The murderer slit his throat. His bloodied body was found a short distance from his house, causing shock and outrage in the entire area.

Jammu and Kashmir Police officials told PTI that the body of the 35-year-old chemist was discovered near his home in Kathua district on Monday (10 June). The news of his murder spread quickly through the area. After his murder, Amarjeet Sharma’s family and neighbours protested, demanding the immediate arrest of the unknown culprits.

District police officials said Amarjeet Sharma had gone to work as usual on Sunday. When he didn’t return home for a long time, his family began searching for him. They found his body near his house in Mela village late Sunday night, with his throat slit.

Hundreds of people carrying Amarjeet Sharma’s body blocked the Jammu-Pathankot Highway and the nearby railway track in Hiranagar at around 9 am on Monday morning to protest.

A police officer said that the police and civil authorities assured the crowd that a case had been registered and an investigation was underway to catch the culprits. After this assurance, the protesters dispersed within two hours.
