A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker named Jadav Bar was allegedly beaten to death by a group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Udaynarayanpur, Howrah district, on May 5.
According to family members and multiple reports, Bar was returning home after celebrating the BJP’s strong performance in the West Bengal Assembly election results. As trends showed the BJP poised to defeat the ruling TMC, he was reportedly cornered near his residence by TMC-affiliated individuals. They allegedly assaulted him with sticks and dumped his body in a sewer. Locals later rushed him to Udaynarayanpur Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
A video of Bar’s grieving family members blaming TMC workers for the killing has gone viral on social media.
Police from Udaynarayanpur station have visited the site and initiated an investigation. No arrests have been publicly confirmed in initial reports.

This incident occurred amid the announcement of results for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, in which the BJP secured a landslide victory, winning approximately 206-207 seats in the 294-member Assembly and ending the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule. The TMC was reduced to around 80-81 seats.
Mamata Banerjee suffered a personal defeat in her home constituency of Bhabanipur, losing to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of over 15,000 votes. In Howrah district, results were mixed: BJP won Howrah Uttar, while TMC held Howrah Madhya and Howrah Dakshin.
