Maulvi thrashed by Hindu women for trying to convert them in dargah under guise of ‘treatment’, arrested: UP

A Maulvi was thrashed for trying to converting Hindu women in a dargah located in Dehligate area in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He was later handed over to the police for further investigation. The police have registered a case against the accused Maulvi under the anti-conversion law.

Harshad Hindu S/O Pawan Kumar, resident of Sarai Hakim, filed a formal complaint was given to the Dehligate police station. It has been mentioned that Maulvi Hafiz Iqbal s/o Mohammad Kalimuddin resident of ADA Colony used to call Hindu women in a religious place near Barhadwari for a long time on the pretext of doing some religious prayers and treatment. Later the Maulvi started pressurizing Hindu women to convert to Islam.

It has been confirmed by the locals that they received information on Monday afternoon that Maulvi has called a few women for conversion. At around one o’clock, a few people including Harshad Hindu, Shagun Varshney, Gaurang Tiwari, Nitin Kajal etc. reached at the spot, where they witnessed that couple of women were being taught Kalma.

Upon asking Maulvi about this act, he said that it is a part of the treatment. Later it was found that Maulvi invited these women on the pretext of treatment, and gradually starting forcing them to read the Kalma, as it will ‘bless them and take away all their sorrows’. In some way or other, the Maulvi was trying to convert Hindu women through deceit.

The local people thrashed the Maulvi and even women beat him with slippers. Later he was handed over to the police, who have registered a case against him under numerous sections.

As per CO Pratham Abhay Pandey, “the accused Maulvi has been arrested in the case. A case has been registered against him for conversion and we are conducting further investigation.”
