A 15-year-old Hindu boy was allegedly strangled to death after he was attacked by a group of minor Islamist youths: Shivamogga, KA

A minor Hindu boy was allegedly beaten to death in the Urgadur area of Karnataka’s Shivamogga district of Karnataka on Monday, February 23, after he attempted to intervene in an altercation between a group of minor Islamist youths. The Hindu victim, identified as 16-year-old Sanket, reportedly lost his life while trying to protect his friend Girish, who was being assaulted by a group of minor Islamist boys.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 8 pm when Sanket and his friend were returning home after attending special classes at a government high school near 14th Cross.

Teen killed while trying to prevent a fight, an attack near school grounds

As per OpIndia reports, police stated that several boys, some of whom were reportedly school dropouts and previously known to the victims, confronted Girish in an open ground located behind the school premises. The situation quickly escalated into a physical assault.

Sanket allegedly stepped in to defuse the situation and prevent further violence. During the confrontation, he was severely attacked and sustained serious injuries.

Fatal assault and collapse

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil said that Sanket suffered a fatal blow to the chest during the assault. He also sustained injuries to his face and abdomen before collapsing at the scene.

Girish immediately informed Sanket’s family members and nearby residents. The injured boy was rushed to a hospital; however, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Speaking to the media, SP Nikhil stated that the accused Islamist youths were known to the victim and had earlier studied in the same institution. He confirmed that all individuals involved are minors and that Sanket collapsed soon after being assaulted.

Police action and security measures

Following the incident, communal tension briefly prevailed in parts of Shivamogga, prompting authorities to deploy additional police personnel to maintain peace and prevent escalation.

Police have registered a case at the Tunga Nagar Police Station, and two Islamist minors have been taken into custody for questioning. Officials have assured the victim’s family that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.

Hindu family demands justice

The tragic death has left Sanket’s family devastated. His relatives have demanded strong punishment for all accused persons, alleging that six Muslim boys were involved in the attack.

On February 24, Sanket’s elder sister, Supriya, expressed anguish and warned that the family would take extreme steps if justice was not delivered. She also highlighted concerns about increasing narcotics abuse among local youths, claiming drug addiction was contributing to rising violence in the area.

Mother recalls son’s final moments

Sanket’s mother, overcome with grief, recalled her son leaving home earlier that day to attend special classes in preparation for his examinations. She said he had bid farewell twice to her and his grandmother before leaving.

She described Sanket as a sincere and disciplined student who consistently performed well academically. According to her, he had recently scored good marks in tests and had been encouraged by the family to continue focusing on his studies.

Family members said Sanket was known for his dedication and good conduct. He reportedly woke up early each morning to study and had aspirations for a better future through education. On the day of the incident as well, he had begun studying at dawn before leaving for school, unaware that it would be his final day.

The incident has sparked outrage locally and renewed discussions about youth violence, drug abuse, and safety among students in the region. Police investigations are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to maintain law and order while ensuring accountability in the case.

The mainstream media is diluting the seriousness of the incident by using terms such as ‘unknown assailants’ or simply ‘minors,’ instead of presenting the full context. Locals point out that areas like Sulebailu-Urgadur have witnessed Hindu-Muslim tensions in the past, making it important to examine the background of such incidents honestly. Concerns have also been raised that crucial aspects, including allegations of drug abuse among local youth and prior communal altercations in the region, have received limited attention in mainstream reporting.

The tragic death of a young Hindu student who attempted to stop violence raises serious questions about the deteriorating law and order situation in Karnataka. Incidents involving Islamist youth violence, rising narcotics abuse, and repeated communal tensions have created growing public anxiety about safety and governance. The Siddaramaiah-led government must move beyond statements and demonstrate firm administrative accountability to ensure justice and prevent such tragedies from recurring. When a Hindu minor loses his life while trying to protect a friend, it reflects a deeper failure of law enforcement, social regulation, and preventive governance, one that demands urgent corrective action rather than political silence.

The Congress government must immediately abandon Islamic appeasement politics and restore equal rule of law, as growing sections of Hindu society feel compelled to awaken, unite, and firmly assert their constitutional rights against biased governance and selective justice.
