Lame Duck for more than a year, stripped of all meaningful powers, will a political qurbani solve the Manipur crisis?

Manipur’s CM N. Biren had been stripped of the power of law and order and unified command for more than a year. The center’s failure to control the crisis and a political sacrifice at this point will not solve the crisis unless an honest approach is adopted and those who initiated the violence are punished.

Since May 4, 2023, one day after the violence broke out, Kuldiep Singh was appointed as the security advisor. Rajiv Singh was appointed as the DGP of Manipur on June 1, 2023. Since then, for all practical purposes, the Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri N. Biren is rendered powerless in maintaining the law and order situation of the state. This was cemented when Kuldiep Singh assumed the role of head of the unified command.

With the sidelining of CM in the recent high-level meeting on Manipur led by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the political speculations on the state are riling up. Some say PR is on the way, some say suspended animation, some say reshaping in the government is approaching, and some say no change in political leadership.

Whatever may be the case, central BJP leadership and the new government have to accept that the Manipur policy since last year has not been working and something new must be done.

The overwhelming dominance of looted weapons in discussions without any significant discussions on the free flow of weapons due to open borders shows the skewness of the policy directions. This is just one of the points, but without a completely honest and holistic approach, a skewed policy will be hard to solve the crisis in Manipur, which deepened due to one year of inaction from the central government.

State, center, media, NDA, and INDI Alliance are not talking enough about those moments when AK-47s were widely seen carried by Kuki militants on 3rd May, 2023. Without addressing these basic facts and justice being delivered, peace in the true sense may be a reality too far.

Who allowed these Kuki militants with AK-47s to initiate burning Meitei homes? It has been over a year, and none have been arrested. Are they even Indians? If they are Indians, is our intelligence network so weak that capturing them is like an impossible task? Are they in SoO Kuki militants or non SoO Kuki groups? In either case, how were these allowed to happen, and why haven’t we seen any response from the Bharat?

Kuki militants with AK-47s during the so-called peaceful rally, burning Meitei houses on May 3, 2023.

Without addressing these decades-old problems, a political sacrifice in the state to divert the blame is unlikely to deliver peace in the troubled state.

Whether the state government, central government, or the BJP accepts the inaction or not, voters have shown their resentment by voting out the BJP and its allies in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election. Congress won both inner and outer seats. If BJP wants to win the next state assembly election, serious actions and outreach will be a must, to say the least. The appeasement policy which neglected core voters, didn’t gain anything either. PM Narendra Modi’s silence and refusal to go to Manipur are also major factors among the people of Manipur.

Shaking up political leadership for a crisis, the leadership didn’t start while keeping one year without any meaningful power, may be seen as a tactical move to shift the blame to the state government while the power resides in Delhi.

Suppose the reward for starting a war on drugs, stopping forest encroachments, detecting illegal immigrants, and saving Indigenous people is showing the way to exit for reasons he is not responsible. In that case, it will be pretty demoralizing for any future leader thinking of taking bold steps for the overall betterment of society.

If the present CM is fully aware of being a lame duck, what’s stopping him from doing something meaningful for the state, for example, standing up boldly and speaking what’s what for everyone to see?

Beyond the smog of propaganda, illegal immigration, massive poppy farms, demographic changes, uneven distribution of land areas, deprivation of ST status for Meiteis, massive deforestation, and forest land encroachment are the issues that need to be solved. Simply shaking up the political leadership without dealing with these issues will not bring meaningful peace in Manipur.

Will the center use the sacrifice route or reinstate power to restore the state to a respectable federal structure? Voters will be watching carefully on the steps the Modi 3.0 government will take with regard to Manipur.

Karnataka CM hits back after Vokkaliga seer asks him to step down and make way for Shivakumar

Bengaluru, June 27 (IANS) Amid the reported infighting in the Karnataka Congress, Chandrashekara Swamiji, a prominent seer of the Vokkaliga community, on Thursday demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to step down and pave the way for Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar to take up the job.

The Vokkaliga seer made the remarks at an event to mark the 515th birth anniversary of Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, in the presence of the Chief Minister.

This development has stirred a debate in the political corridors of the state, reigniting the issue of Shivakumar becoming the CM for a 2.6-year term.

Chandrashekara Swamiji said, “Everyone has enjoyed the seat of power by becoming the Chief Minister except D.K. Shivakumar. Hence, I request our experienced Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to vacate the CM’s post and bless Shivakumar.”

Talking to the media after the programme, the seer reiterated, “It is Shivakumar’s turn now. Hence, CM Siddaramaiah should vacate his chair for him. Later, Home Minister G. Parameshwara and Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda can become CMs.”

“Who won 135 seats for the Congress in Karnataka? It was Shivakumar who spent money, toured the state, and ensured the party’s victory. Siddaramaiah was sitting quietly before coming to power. I don’t want to comment further on this. But handing over power to Shivakumar is justice,” the Swamiji maintained.

The seer also said that he did not discuss the matter with Shivakumar.

“I am speaking my mind. He (Shivakumar) should have become the CM by now, but Siddaramaiah has not given him the opportunity and is holding on to the post. Someone should convince Siddaramaiah. I am not talking about the Vokkaliga community, I am vouching for Shivakumar,” he added.

Reacting to the remarks, CM Siddaramaiah said the party high command will decide on the position of Chief Minister.

“The Swamiji cannot decide on this. It is for the high command to decide, and what decision it takes will be followed,” the Chief Minister said.

Padmakshi Temple, Hanamkonda, Telangana

Padmakshi Temple is one of the oldest temples in the Hanamakonda area of Telangana State. It is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Padmakshi (form of Goddess Lakshmi), and also features Jain imagery.

History

The site originally had a Shaivite cave temple and the artificial caves, located to the west of the present-day temple, were probably carved before the 5th century CE, as they are almost identical to the early Brahmanical caves. A Jain shrine was established in 1117 CE, during the rule of the  Kakatiya chief and Shaivite King Prola II, who was a vassal of the Kalyani Chalukyas.

He was the father of Rudra-deva, the first sovereign ruler of the Kakatiya family.  The 1117 CE Padmakshi Temple inscription records the construction of a Jaina shrine named Kadalalaya-basadi, and a gift of land to this shrine. The Kakatiya rulers converted from Jainism to Veerasaivism. Probably sometime after the 1156 CE, the Brahmanical shrine (Padmakshi Vigraha) replaced the Jain shrine, possibly due to the influence of the Veerashaivas. The temple was built during the reign of Kakatiya King Ganapathi Deva, who was a great patron of the arts and architecture.

The Jains attempted to regain control of the site in the 19th century, but a commission set up by the Nizam of Hyderabad concluded that the site originally hosted a Hindu shrine ( Shaivaite cave temple) . In 1869 CE, the Nizam granted land for the maintenance of the temple. The temple is one of the leading centres for Jainism in the surrounding areas, and it is called Basadi (place of worship for Jains).

Murthis in the temple

An impressive feature of the temple is the four faces of the Annakonda pillar, which is a quadrangular column made of black granite stone at the temple’s entrance. It is said that the present Padmakshi deity is a Jain yakshini of Parshwanatha called Amrakushmandini (Ambika). The Padmakshi deity along with yaksha Dharnendra (attendant deity of Parshwanatha) and with a huge image of Parshwanatha in the middle of both are the main deities in Padmakshi temple.

According to the Jain tradition, Parshwanatha, the 23rd Thirthankara lived about 250 years earlier to Mahaveera, i.e, 8th Century BCE (Mahaveera belongs to 6th Century BCE). The images, all carved from live rock, have been retouched and painted. The Goddess Padmakshi is decorated as a little girl in the morning, as a young girl in the afternoon and as an older woman in the evening. The temple also has Bhagwan Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Krishna statues.

The temple is on the hill Padmakshi Gutta. A large Lake surrounds the temple; at the foot of the temple, there is Bhagwan Narasimha Swamy Temple.

Festivals

Telangana Festival Bathukamma is celebrated very grandly at this temple during Navratri (September-October). Thousands of women arrive to celebrate this Bathukamma festival and immerse flowers in the pond at the foot of Padmakshi hillock. Diwali and Bonalu (year another Telangana festival celebrated in during July- August worshipping Goddess Mahakali) are the other main festivals celebrated in this temple.

From the top of the hillock the pilgrims can see the panoramic view of the town which is beautiful. This temple is not only ancient but is also a blend of Hindu and Jain religions, a unique one and therefore attracts not only the followers of the respective faiths but also those who are keen to study the history of our religious places.

How to Reach the Temple

By Air:

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad (160 KMs) is the nearest airport to reach the temple.

By Rail:

The two nearest railway stations are Warangal (6KMs) and Kazipet Junction (8.5 KMs)

By Road:

The temple is well connected by road and the nearby towns are Hanamkonda (3KMs), Warangal (6.5 KMs), and Hyderabad (150 KMs).

Three persons, including two siblings whose father was a native of Pakistan, were given Indian citizenship certificates under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by the Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday.

The third person who received the Indian citizenship certificate under CAA, Rakhi Das, has parental roots in Bangladesh.

Sameer Salwani and Sanjana Salwani, whose father was a native of Pakistan, shifted to India in 2012. The trio had applied for Indian citizenship in May this year, the state government said in a statement on Thursday.

The certificates were handed over to them by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the state secretariat in Bhopal.

Speaking on this occasion, CM Yadav said, “Those who have been given Indian citizenship certificates were living in the neighbouring countries, which were part of ‘Akhand Bharat’. The state government welcomes them. They are now allowed to live here as Indian citizens.”

The Chief Minister also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made this possible by introducing the CAA.

To recall, on March 11, the Centre notified the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules 2024, thus paving the way for enforcing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before December 31, 2014.

Miscreants ‘vandalise’ Asaduddin Owaisi’s house in Delhi

Miscreants allegedly vandalised the official residence of Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM MP from Hyderabad, in Delhi’s high-security Ashoka Road on Thursday night with black ink besides pasting posters demanding cancellation of his Lok Sabha membership.

The alleged vandals also posted posters reading ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ with the demand that Owaisi’s Lok Sabha membership be cancelled.

The AIMIM chief posted on X that some unknown miscreants vandalised his house with black ink, adding that he has lost count of the number of times his Delhi residence has been targeted.

Owaisi said when he asked Delhi Police officials how this was happening right under their nose, they expressed helplessness.

He also tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying this was happening under his oversight, as he asked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to tell whether MPs’ safety will be guaranteed.

“To the two-bit goons who keep targeting my house: This does not scare me. Stop this Savarkar-type cowardly behaviour and be men enough to face me. Do not scurry away after throwing some ink or pelting a few stones,” Owaisi wrote in the post.

Following the incident, Delhi Police have stepped up security at Owaisi’s residence.

A posse of police personnel was seen outside the house with some removing the posters pasted on the nameplate and main gate.

The incident is apparently linked to Owaisi raising the slogan of ‘Jai Palestine’ after taking oath as an MP on Tuesday.

The BJP had taken strong exception to the AIMIM leader’s action with some leaders demanding that Owaisi be disqualified as an MP.

West Bengal: One more Muslim youth held for alleged ‘links’ with Bangladesh-based terror outfit ‘Shahadat-e al Hiqma’

The Special Task Force(STF) of West Bengal Police has arrested a 27-year-old Muslim youth, a resident of the Nadia district for alleged links with a Bangladesh-based terror outfit

‘Shahadat-e al Hiqma’.

The arrested youth has been identified as Harej Sheikh(27). Harej is a resident of Mayapur in Nadia’s Nabadwip. On the 25th of June, he was arrested from the Howrah Railway Station.

Four days ago, the STF had arrested a computer science student, named Muhammed Habibullah(21), from Paschim Bardhaman district. Habibullah was allegedly linked with the same Islamic terror outfit of Bangladesh, ‘Shahadat-e al Hiqma’.

According to the STF, Harej Sheikh has links with the same terror group. STF got his name during Habibullah’s interrogation.

However, Muhammed Habibullah is in the STF’s custody. He has been booked under the Unlawful Activities(Prevention) Act.

The STF suspects Habibullah to be the chief of the West Bengal module of ‘Shahadat-e al Hiqma’. Habibullah has been trying to recruit new members in the terror outfit.

Mollywood director Manzoor Rasheed accused of narco jihad, rape and extortion

As per a Karma News report, Hyderabad police reached Kollam Oachira to arrest Manzoor Rasheed, an assistant director who sexually abused a young actress and filmed the footage. The incident happened in Prithviraj’s Bro Daddy movie (released in 2022), set in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. Local Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM) leaders are helping Rasheed now.

Rasheed from Ochira reached the hotel room where the young lady was staying in Hyderabad and plied her with narcotic drugs, spiking them in cool drinks and chocolates. Allegedly, Rasheed raped the victim after she fell unconscious.

The intoxicated young actress woke up after seven hours. She realised what had happened and returned home from the sets. Now the Telangana police have registered a case under the charges of rape against Rasheed.

After she reached home, Rasheed sent obscene pictures that he had recorded while the actress was unconscious, blackmailed her and demanded money. He extorted 6.5 lakh rupees from the young actress on several occasions.

Initially, the victim did not inform her husband about the ordeal. The actress gave the money to the accused to prevent her family from breaking up. But later, the young actress had to share the information with her husband after Rasheed demanded more money.

When the victim informed Prithviraj, he sent back Rasheed but did not inform the police. But when the husband learned about this, he did not help his wife. He left his wife and ended the relationship. Then, the young actress took legal action against Rasheed.

No matter where you go, such atrocities will have the signature of a CPM leader. When the Hyderabad police came to Oachira in Kollam to arrest Rasheed, CPM Party local secretary Oachira Kunji Chanthu allegedly hid the accused.

Kollam police allegedly leaked information that Telangana police had reached Kerala to arrest Rasheed. The Telangana Police also raided the house of the CPM leader in Oachira. The young actress has complained to the DGP against CPM Local Secretary Chanthu. She added that Rasheed’s father, Tanseer, is now threatening to kill her.

As per reports, the victim is a Malayali. Most Mollywood actresses are vulnerable, star-struck Hindu and Christian girls. Islamists prey on such ladies, exploit them and reject them.

Prithviraj is a known Hindu hater, and most of his movies reflect the same and glorify Islamist atrocities and violence. He has big plans for a film to honour Variyan Kunnathu Kunjahammed Haji, the 1921 Malabar Hindu genocide mastermind.

Is this another case of narcotic/rape jihad? How long will Rasheed stay underground with CPM’s help?

L-G Saxena orders dissolution of Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission; AAP protests

Delhi LG

In yet another setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Thursday temporarily dissolved the Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission (DDCD), claiming that the state-funded body was reduced to accommodating “favoured individuals and unelected friends” to extend monetary benefits to them.

While ordering the dissolution of the DDCD, L-G Saxena said that it failed to serve its purpose and was now catering to “people with specific political leanings”, providing financial benefits and extending patronage to select individuals.

“The Commission was created to serve as a policy think-tank manned by domain experts, on the lines of the Planning Commission/NITI Aayog, to provide inputs of governance. It was not meant to accommodate favoured individuals, unelected friends, or politically partisan people,” L-G Saxena said.

He also pointed out that these positions were honorary but in the past few years, they were blatantly converted into positions of perk and power.

The L-G also claimed that there was no work allocation among the members of DDCD, and the latter has become a place for fanning “nepotism and favouritism”.

He also slammed the AAP administration for “arbitrary” appointments in the DDCD and termed the disbursement of hefty salaries every month as “patently illegal”.

The dissolution of DDCD drew protests from AAP, along expected lines.

AAP Minister Sourabh Bharadwaj termed the move “petty politics” and also claimed that the L-G has stooped to a new level of politics for “making his masters” happy.

Hurling a barb at Saxena, Bharadwaj demanded the L-G to explain how he got appointed to the coveted position and who approved his appointment for the post.

“It is a well-known fact that all the commissions, committees, and boards of the Central government or in the BJP-ruled states have political appointees without any test or interview. It’s an old practice,” said the Minister of Health and Urban Development in Delhi government.

Bangladesh: A Hindu temple is under attack in Sitakunda, valuable ornaments stolen

0

Hindu minorities and their temples are not safe in the Muslim-majority Bangladesh. A fresh case has been reported from the Sitakunda district of Bangladesh.

On the night of 24th of June, unidentified miscreants targeted a Kali Mata temple in Kedarkhil village under the Sayedpur union of Sitakunda. The perpetrators entered the temple around midnight by breaking the lock of the gate. They took valuable gold and silver ornaments from the Vigraha. They also broke the donation box of the temple and took all the money from it.

Next morning, the priest of the temple first saw that the gate of the temple was open.  So, he informed others. Locals soon gathered in front of the temple. They found that valuable ornaments and money from the donation box were stolen.

Meanwhile, the Police were informed about the matter. A team of personnel from the Sitakunda Police Station reached there. But, as there was no CCTV installed in the temple, the police got no clue about the culprits. As of now, no one has been identified or arrested.
